Before surgery I ate alot of grilled chicken and turkey burgers.  Oh how I love the turkey burgers!  Wishing you the best to try protein first!!! You are being very proactive to try things out before surgery. I know it can be difficult now but easier down the line.

Lisa, Hi     At my 2 ,week post op,  the dietician told me no more than one cup of protein drink per day.  so OK.  I am just concentrating on turkey, salmon, egg, hormel chili with beans and  turkey.  Plus you just have to do what is feeling right.  I am hoping that out a bit the whey will ta.ste better in a smoothie

Surgery 1/2/'08 @ 227 lbs.......today, 143 and working towards 138.

These are all such good ideas. Lisa I am going to try the protein thing first too. I am also going to have given up pop by the end of the week. Next week no drinking with meals. I don't know when my surgery will be yet, but better to be prepared. You ask great questions! Thanks Lisa

I am preparing too by finding protein sources I actually like.  I have been testing a variety of the protein drinks - and I would agree some of them taste nasty or the consistency is thick and like drinking cake batter.

I have found a few I like - Matrix chocolate and Matrix vanilla.  Also Syntrax Nectar lemonade and fuzzy navel.    I ordered them from www.bariatriceating.com - that is a great site to check out.

I live near you (in Rosemount)- if you want to give these a try before you order - PM me and I will share.

That Syntrax Lemonade.....  Try mixing it with lemonade Crystal Lite.  Lots of people like it that way.

Hi Lisa, great question. I asked a similar one a while back on the 30's board and got some great responses. One thing that people post op have told me though (since I'm pre-op) is just as Patty said. What you like now may totally be what you hate after. They also recommended not purchasing the protein powders now to try, unless I absolutely wanted to increase my protein, but if it was just to try and find a flavor to like, forget it because that can go right out the window after surgery. Also, there is a protein food website. I can't think of the name of it because of course it's on my favorites at work vs. home so I can PM it to you tomorrow. Don't forget you can double up on proteins, too. Like grilling your chicken & adding cheese, etc. I also love the Fage yogurt from Trader Joe's. Plain it's like sour cream, add a SF coffee syrup like vanilla and it's like yogurt. Very high in protein also! Trader Joe's also has a lot of great protein sources, like frozen Edamame (soy bean). These are really good IMO. You can buy them already shelled and salted, so you can just thaw in the fridge and eat cold, or you can steam them a little if you'd rather have them warm. A note on the egg salad & tuna salad - just be careful as to the amount of mayo or Miracle Whip you use. I know one of my dear friends here who dumps off it.

Good decision, Lisa! This is an area I've been focusing on since June so I know you can do this and it will pay off huge in the long run!
