Met my surgeon today!
Well peeps, I feel like my journey has officially started! WOOT! I met Dr. Buchwald and his staff today. Had my first dietician appointment and got all the basic in-take appointment paperwork done.
Two things I loved about the U's bariatric clinic:
1. Valet parking (no extra cost, so why not!) At 6:30 a.m. & about 5 degrees, I just thought that was 'da BOMB. (that one was for you Darla! LOL)
2. Over-sized, comfy chairs in waiting room. Seriously, I thought that was so thoughtful on the clinics part! Makes me feel they take obesity seriously.
Things I loved about Dr. B.:
1. His sense of humor (i.e. - "the hospital has 4 kinds of pureed's for you...green, gray, brown, and yellow, don't ask me what's in them because I have no idea".) LMAO!
2. His technical knowledge.
3. Amount of time he spent with us as a group & individually.
I complimented him on being the DS King in MN and he chuckled about that, but said he'd take it. How sweet a man he is.
He had some really awesome points about obesity and cited some papers I have actually had the privelege to read because of posts on OH! It's quite a feeling going into that session with him and knowing in the back of your mind that you can honestly say you've done your homework as a patient. Makes my wait all the more sweet for me personally.
I know a few of you had specific questions, so feel free to PM me with those!
God speed!
~Amy~
Oh Amy, I am sincerely SO HAPPY for you! You have re-written the BOOK on preparing oneself for this journey, and you are SO DESERVING of having it all go smoothly for you from today forward!
Did Dr. B give you any idea how long it takes, roughly, from this appointment to surgery? You have been so patient and all I'm sure you're fine with any timeframe at this point, but EVERYONE wants the answer to THAT one!
And - uh, forgive my aged brain fart, but - did I forget some boneheaded valet parking moment I was involved in? I can only think of one (which DID happen at the U, btw, but I don't remember sharing my middle-aged moment with anyone!! DO ENLIGHTEN ME! I'm sure I deserve to be embarassed here!)
Can't wait to see you Saturday for a major co-birthday boob-masher!!!
Imperfect does not = unsuccessful
My sweet friend, thank you! He is scheduling surgeries at the end of February right now, but he only operates 1 day / week, so you are limited on availability. For me personally, I am waiting 'til my mama comes homes in mid-April for sure. DH could use her help with the boys and stuff. I'll be in the hospital for 5 - 8 days after surgery, so it will help to have her available. Of course, insurance could hold up everything as we all know, but even if they throw 6-mo. supervised diet at me, it's okay. I'll take it. It's better than flat out denying me! DH wants to know if someone can take video of the boob mashing?! LMAO!
