Hello everyone!  I was wondering if there is anyone on the board who has had RNY surgery and is a SAHM with young children.  I am a SAHM with five 3 1/2 year olds and I am worried about being able to resist snacking after surgery.  The boys have several snacks a day and it is so easy to just pop something in your mouth as the kids eat.  Any advice from anyone who is in this place would be greatly appreciated!  Thanks!

Hi I do daycare and I have no desire to eat with the kids.  I am not hungry at all.  I used to eat all the time but food just doesn't sound good to me anymore.  All though each person is different this is how I am.  I hope this helps you.  keep us updated!!!!!!!!!! Hugs Marsha

You have 5, 3 1/2 year old boys?   Anyways I work fulltime out of the home, but I still have problems with weekends, when they want a snack.  My boys are going to be 5 in 2 weeks, and DH and I are starting now teaching them good eating habbits and either they have string cheese or a few crackers.  Sometimes they will have a cookie and so do I but then I dump so that's my saving grace dumping.  No real good advice here just was more curious about 5- 3 1/2 year olds.

I have twin boys that are going to be 5 in a couple of days, I can't imagine having 5 boys!   How exciting!    Sorry to get off your topic but since I have had the boys through IVF I find all multiples very exciting.

One way is to break down your daily food into small portions that you can have when the kids snack.  That way you don't feel deprived and don't end up with those little nibbles that can sabotage your success.

I'm sorry I don't know what SAHM is, please share that with me. I am currently having some problems wanting to snack. I have one 3 yr. old boy and we have some treats around. I usually try to go for something good, or low in sugar, and yesterday when I felt like snaking I mad a yogurt smoothy which fixed the sweet tooth.  Let's just say it's a work in progress.

stay at home mom The boys are in a growth spurt and I can't keep them full.  They are constantly asking for food.  I try and keep it healthy--string cheese, crackers, pretzels--it can be tempting at times.

Thanks, I didn't see that, but now it makes sense. I work full-time, but when I am home I do want to snack with my little guy, I'm still working on this issue.

First of all, may I just say   This is the first post I've read from you, but I bow down to you.  I can't imagine!  I send you my prayers for all that you need with 5 lil' ankle-biters!  WOWOWOWOW!!!  I'm sure that list includes patience, food, socks, and car seats.  Bless your heart! I'm not a SAHM, but I work in a very casual environment where snacking has always been open and available.  Two things I've learned since surgery - your desire for food is quite different.  Because of our tool, because of all the mental prep and education we've gone through before surgery.  And, because in reaching the point where we want to put ourselves through WLS, we have also reached a point where I believe we are more dedicated to doing the right thing.  Do I still snack?  Yes, I do.  But I make sure that the things that I have available to snack on are PROTEIN based.  Cheese, soy crisps, beef jerky, milk, etc.  So I don't have all the guilt, and I make sure I get my goal for protein in every day.  Wanting your boys to have healthy snacks is going to help you ALL out in the long run! Again, BLESS YOUR HEART!!!
