Post-op meds?
I was reading a thread from yesterday about a Tylenol and chewable vitamin getting stuck. I am pre-op and started wondering...if things get stuck that easily, how do people take meds post-op? Is it liquid? I'm having surgery in 2 1/2 weeks and started getting a little scared after reading that. I don't know about you, but I'm a wuss and want pain meds after my surgery.
If you take any meds right now, you can talk to your pharmacist about whether or not they come in other, easier to swallow forms (ie liquid or chewable). If not, most meds are able to be cut into pieces, or sprinkled into foods. Again, something to talk to your pharmacist about. Also, the pain meds I got in hospital were introduced via IV, or through a needle on the backside of my hip. They sent me home with a liquid pain med, which I ended up only needing a couple doses of. My surgeons office said that at about 6 weeks I would be able to take a tylenol without breaking it up, I have done this without problem, but I'm a little paranoid about absorption and getting stuck, so I'm happy to keep cutting them in half. Between my regular meds, and all the vitamins, I sometimes feel like I'm taking in a full meal when I sit down to take my meds, my pouch gets full and I have to wait a bit before I can finish. Also, if you have a lot to take, spreading them out through the day can be helpful with not getting that painful, overfull feeling.

Personally, I never have had any problems with pills getting stuck - food YES, not pills.
