Need Help

This morning I took a little Tylenol pill with a small amount of water, a chewable Flintstone and a chewable calcium.  Don't know what happened but I believe they got stuck and I have been spitting up for about 2 hours and now have the hiccups.  I'm scared to drink water but don't know how to get all of this stuff moving through.  It still feels stuck in my chest and have been spitting the coffee I had earlier.  Is this normal?  I guess maybe I should have spaced the vitamin and calcium chewables about 30 minutes apart? YUK! Bonnie

I think your Tylenol must be the culprit.  I wouldn't think the chewables would be the problem.  Maybe you should have taken more water with the Tylenol?  In any event, I'd try some more water and see if that helps.  If it doesn't, the standard "fix" for some people is taking a sip of coke  - the fizz might break it up.  I'd try water first.

Sweet, dear Bonnie.....try and make sure you space the vitamin and calcium at least 2 hrs apart. If you take them together all they do is fight for absorption and you wont be getting the full requirements. As for them all being "stuck" I would drink a little water....will aide in the dissolving of the pills.  Carol had told me awhile ago too....that if you need it to come "up" and out to take a small sip of carbonated pop...it will help bring things up....haven't tried that one. LOL You would think that the chewables would be dissovled and flushed through by now...the pill may have just gotten stuck. So how have you been other than this....?? Sherry-

Well I think they both lost the fight for absorbtion.  LOL.   OK  tried the water and it's back up.  May need to resort to Carol's fix.  My old friend Diet Coke. Actually this is the first issue I've had since surgery and no more pills for me!!!!!  Tried the  coke and Carol's right .........up and out after the coke.  It tasted like crap too!  I can't believe it.   I think I feel better.  Thanks for your help! Bonnie

I still cut my tylenol in half, just to be sure they go down.  Come to think of it, I still cut all my meds in half, but more because I want to make sure they get a good chance to absorb.

This is something I will do in the future.  Stuck is not a good feeling!  I think I'm ok now. Bonnie

Bonnie- Good for you! I'm glad it came up and you are feeling much better! Good old diet coke, still good for something! LOL Yeah, I'd stick to still cutting your pills in half...I take Tylonal Rapid Release Gels....they seem to go down very easy...but I haven't been swallowing pills for very long.

Bonnie, you might invest in some Tylenol Junior's chewables until you're further out....  just be sure to dose yourself appropriately!  Getting stuck on ANYTHING sucks rocks!!!  And as always, make sure you chew them until you can't feel anything left to chew!   Glad you're feeling better!  (have you learned to to relieve yourself yet?  Not that I'm advocating people hurl, but when you're stuck, it's the quickest way to get relief!)

I'm so glad you posted this because now I know how to prevent this from happening or what to do if it does. Thanks,

Jennifer

Hi Bonnie, I am glad you are feeling better!  I use the liquid tylenol rapid blast - extra strength (for adults) and it seems to absorb well for me.  I worry about the absorbtion more than the getting stuck now that I am over a year out.  Just a suggestion.  I think it works great!
