First Fill Today!!
Hi everyone...I got my first fill done today. I know some of you at the North Branch coffee wanted to know about it. First we just talked about my portein and liquid intake and he just reminded me of how important it is to get the proper amounts in. Then we talked about excersise and how important that is. He gave me examples of how much quicker the weight comes off when you excersise compared to when you don't excersise. I am down to 235 and my starting weight was 249. He said I am doing really well. We will talk about all this and how much I eat at each visit and that helps him determin if I need a fill or not.
Ok for the fill...it was really no big deal. First you lay on the table and he fills your stomach to find your port. Then once he finds it, he whipes betadine on your stomach to steralize the area the needle is going in. Then he puts a sterile sheet with a small opening over the stomach. After that he numbs you with lydacain. Once numb, he feels for the port again and sticks the needle with the saline in the port. He has done this long enough that when he feels resistance when putting the saline in, he knows you have enough. Today I got 3cc. He said the first one you always get less cause there is still some in there from surgery. I still had about 1cc in there. Then after that I had to sit up and drink 3 half dixie cups of water. When I felt burby or hiccupy I had to tell him cause then he could gage if I had to much saline, not enough, or just the right amount.
i go back in 4 weeks for another one. However, if I start to feel like I am not staying full for 4-6 hours after each meal and/or I am eating more than a 1/2 - 1 c of food at each meal before that time I have to call and go in sooner cause that means I need a fill.
It was real interesting, and no pain. I could feel like tugging but no pain at all. It was really kind of cool.
Congrats on getting your first fill! Give it a few weeks, 'cuz sometimes, oddly enough, it kicks in later on. It'll probably take a few fills to get to optimum restricition. I'm a little over a year out and am going in for another fill next week. I've started getting hungry between meals again and the will power isn't always what it should be. I have another 20 lbs. I want to lose, so need another fill to get me there. Hope all goes well. Jean B.
