I have really been struggling with keeping any type of food down. It all started when I moved over to pureed food. I don't know if I moved to quickly to pureed or what??? Saturday and Sunday were awful I would everytime I tried anything even a popsicle. I talked with the nurse on Monday and she told me to up my acid control to 150 mg 2x a day and go back to the full liquid diet for a few days to settle the pouch. Well, Monday and Tuesday I have been strickly on clear liquids. I have been able to keep the liquids down! So that is some good news I guess.  Well now I'm afriad to try anything! I was thinking of sticking with yougurt and pudding for a while. But, I'm afraid that I will get sick.  Especially at work getting sick it not fun at all.  I just do not know what to do??? Will I ever be some what normal again?
God Bless, Angela

Angela, I'm sorry your having such problems. If you can keep yogurt and pudding down stick with it, and how about milk? If you can do milk, try putting CIB in it to give you some more calories. I'm not sure what else to tell you, I know I was afraid to eat, but only because of some discomfort, I didn't get sick. Hope you feel better.

I have been finding every time I have something with to much Nutra-sweet or Splenda I get sick to my stomach. But have had no problems with refried beans. I blend my beans with salsa and they are really yummy.

Angela...sorry you are having problems. Maybe it was just the flu. There is so muuch going around.  Try a little food in the evenings after work and see how that goes. Could you tolerate Boost...that in the glucose control formula has all the vitamins, protein and minerals you need for a meal. Might work to take to work a few days. Also the CIB is a good choice too. Hope you are feeling better real soon. Hugs, connie d

Hey Hon!  BEEN THERE DONE THAT!!  SO, yes you WILL be normal again!!  I had a VERY sensitive pouch!!  (aka: grouchy pouchy)  A smooth transitition is key.  Taking your time, chew, chew ,chew (remember everything applesauce consistancey).  I had HUGE fears of eating afterwards and took it VERY slow and still did hurl ups here and there.  Yogurt was my best friend.  Eat slow and just to being content.  I know our program says only three meals but if I didn't finish a meal I would eat it as a snack and Donna said that was just fine.  YOU DO WHAT YA HAVE TO!!!  Make sure you are getting enough fluids in also, without enough fluids you will feel naseau!  BEST TO YOU, and hang in there it gets better (grouchy pouchy too!).

So sorry you're not having luck with the pureed foods yet.  But I can totally relate.  It wasn't until after my 5 month anniversary that I could really tolerate any meat at all (pureed or otherwise).  Yogurt and cottage cheese  were and still are my bestest friends in the world :) Some days I "almost" wish I never passed month 5.  I'm already able to tolerate WAY more than I wish I could.  But - yes - you will become somewhat normal again.  It just takes time.

Sending many well wishes your way!

I second what Sandie said about chewing everything (even the soft, pureed stuff!), thoroughly, and TAKE YOUR TIME!  The two things that gave me the most trouble were mindlessly not chewing something enough, and eating too fast.  Think of it as a traffic jam in your pouch - it's still healing, things are moving slow, and if you try to put too much in there when it's been on liquids for so long?  It's bound to back up!  And when a pouch backs up, that means . Please be assured that the day will come when you get the rhythm of all this.  BUT - if you're doing these two things to the best of your ability and STILL have issues?  DEFINITELY talk to your surgeon.  Some people do have issues with their stoma being too small for one reason or another, which could cause issues - but as I understand it, that's a relatively easy fix.   HUGS to you!

Angela,

I am so sorry about the pureed food. Do the best you can with what your nurse said.

Work is not the place anyone want to feel sick at, so not fun is right!

Yes, you will be normal we just have a some new wiring to learn about.

Rest and take time out if you need too! Right now YOU do come first and this new life.

In this together,

MJ
