Can anyone make any suggestions on how to get my pain meds down? Or is this something I will need to tolerate it took 45 minutes to get the crushed pill down and now I can feel the effects but wanted to know how others managed to get them down.  Sorry, if I'm repeating myself but I am on currently on a major drug and probably rambling, sorry. Will check back tomorrow on any responses getting very sleepy now, Erika

I was sent home with a liquid pain killer.  Maybe you could call and see if you could get whatever you are taking in a liquid form.  The medicine I was sent home with is called Roxicet, it is the liquid version of Percocet.  Hope this helps and that you can get your pain managed.

Erika, I would definitely call...there has to be something liquid they can give you.   Tell them how hard of a time you are having and that since it's taking so long your pain is getting unbearable.    Until then can you try to put it in a little applesauce, yogurt, pudding or something.   Not sure if you can have them yet though.   Don't be afraid to call them you really need something.   Call if you need to talk!!

I went home with liquid too.  The doctor on call can call something in for you -- call them to get a liquid med and don't wait.  You have to stay on top of the pain.... XXOO

My pain pills were VERY tiny, so didn't need to crush, but didn't take them after I was home but once or twice.  I would definately call and let them know about how difficult it is and they should be able to help with liquid or smaller pills.

My hubby had me try with decaf raspberry tea, in the little 1 oz plastic cups and then I had the meds crush in the other with tea its very nausating and I was gagging but I was so uncomfortable last night.  I was crying and so I tried the liquid tylenol and that seem to take the edge off an but I don't even know if there is a liquid that I can take because I am allergic to codeine, codone derivatives:   loritab, percososet, hydrocodone, oxycodone.  I have to be really carefully because with these  I have severe reactions with my breathing, itching and rash.  I am currently on propoxyphene-n the generic of Dialudid or something like that, its so hard to remember all those names.  I've been able to get these down it just take so long and then I'm pain so I am taking half a pill like every two hours instead of whole pill every 4 hrs.  I can't even tell if this is gas pains or pain from the surgery haven't been able to tell I have sharp pains and severe dull pains as well and I haven't had  a bm (sorry tmi) since tuesday so I started to take milk of magnesia that seems to have helped but  I can only take small sip, then a small sip of water.  I have been walking in my house as well, because it has been to slippery outside and I don't need to fall down and hurt myself anymore than I'm already hurting, that has also helped.   But, I do have two good things going for me since surgery.. I am already off two of meds and my blood sugars have been excellent, so I'm happy about the accomplishments.  I can feel the effects of the meds, so I think I am going to go rest now and will check back later when I feel upto it. Thanks to everyone for your help and I will call my doctor if I have anymore issues. Erika

You should double check with your doctor before you take the milk of magnium.  You aren't eating any food so you might not have a "bm" for a few weeks.  The bm's you may have had since the surgery are from food you had before surgery -- the prep is good but not that good.  Pain meds will also cause gas on top of the 30 days it could take to get rid of the surgery gas.   If taking the tylenol takes the edge off so you don't need the pain meds except for when the pain is really bad, try weaning off the meds to see if that is the cause of the gas.  Bu****ch the sugar content of the tylenol liquid too. Hope you feel better soon. XXOO

Erika, I know that both Missy and I were sent home with a liquid pain medicine. We also had Dr. Medlin as our surgeon. Although I didnt have the pain like you are having, I saw Missy in that pain and hate to see you suffer! Call him tomorrow and see if there is something else in the liquid form they can give you. Brea
