OT Update on flooded house

Thanks to all *****sponded with prayers and offers of support. We are looking at a month out of the house. We have the best insurance you can have for this sort of thing, they are paying for most of the bills. Progress is slow however. Living in a hotel SUCKS! It is so hard to maintain the diet we are supposed to be on living in a hotel room, so I am struggling with that. But my human family is together now, so that part it good. SO far what I need from everyone is just to keep me in your prayers. That and I am so glad there is coffee tomorrow, cuz I need some support on how to get back on track with my post op diet needs.

Can you get a small/dorm size refrig for your stuff in your room?  And/or a microwave?  The hotel may have both for you to use too.  I'd ask at the front desk if you could work something out with them -- I know hotels I've stayed at do this for people who have to keep insulin and stuff cold on extended stays.   They sent a maintenance guy in and had both installed in your room.   Or see if your insurance company will pay for you to stay at an extended stay place because they have monthly rates rather than daily rates.  I've stayed at Marriott Residence Inns (which have separate bedrooms and a full kitchen, and Homewood Suites which has mini-kitchens with a frig and microwave (and some have freee breakfast and dinner so the family gets meals too).   And they are usually cheaper and nicer than a regular hotel with separate bedrooms too.  I'd ask  your insurance company "because of your medical needs" (which they are) and they have full kitchens.  And they have better fitness rooms too so you can keep working out. I do know you do not have to stay at a cheaper hotel and inconveniece yourself -- that is what you pay insurance for.  They are suppose to reimburse you for your lodging and most don't have a daily rate limit for "special situations".  If you had a special needs child or something, they'd have to pay for you to accomodate that so get a note from your doctor and take advantage of it.  Your family will enjoy the "hotel" stay a lot more!!!! You should check that out.   At least you could stay a bit closer on track. Prayers still coming your way!!!

We borrowed a dorm size fridge and bought a small conventional oven for the room. We have gotten a weekly rate for the room and they are supposed to be billing my insurance directly, however today I see they have taken almost $800 out of my checking account, so I will have to look into that. They don't have much along the line of suites here in town, and they are way more expensive, plus this is the only hotel that also has a restaurant attached to it so that is why we are staying here, plus all my stuff is here, I don't want to move it again. lol Thanks for all the great advice.

I will definately say some prayers for you.  I am very glad to hear that you have good insurance that is covering the clean up.  I think Barb brings up some good points and I hope you are able to find something that makes sticking to your diet a lot easier.

Prayers are yours!  I've gotta say, tho, I think your attitude is AWESOME!  Yes, that kind of existance sucks, but I have a hunch it'll be over before you know it.  And somewhere down the road, this will be a GREAT story to share!!!   Uh - yea, that's it!  A great story!

Have you looked into the Extended stay hotels? They are affordable and have a full kitchen. It would be easier on you and your family.  I will keep you in my prayers. Good luck with everything.  Hugs,  Lori
