Losing hair...

Yes I am losing my hair and it is getting pretty scary.   A little about myself. I have always had VERY fine, thin hair to begin with.   I am just about 6 mo post op RNY.  I am pretty much on track wih my protein.  I have spoken with my hair stylist on what I can do to not lose anymore, But she had no suggestions and told me nothing can help.  .  It has gotten to the point I can see my scalp just looking at me, also my hair is fraile looking and frizzy.  I no long blow dry (nor do I need to...it dries in an instant) but it was making it worse,  I have also stopped curling my hair, for the same reason.    I am wondering if anyone else has had issues such as these and if there was anything that you tried that helped get your hair back or keep from losing anymore.  I know there is no quick fix but I am all out of ideas on to how to deal with this and anything that I could do to help.   Thank you for any advise you have to share.

Unfortunately, this is one of the ugly side affects of surgery.  Fortunately, I can almost guarantee you that it WILL STOP and your lost hair WILL grow back! Couple of things to help it.  PROTEIN, PROTEIN, PROTEIN If you're getting all your protein in, then you can try Nioxen, which is a shampoo and conditioner that helps stop hairloss.  You can also start taking Biotin - which is a vitamin that's supposed to help prevent hairloss - I think it also helps strengthen nails too! I'm 9 months out - I started losing hair at about 2 months and start regrowth at about 7-8 months. Good luck!

I'm with you! I just started losing mine in the past couple of weeks and it's a little scary. I knew this would happen but I don't think you can truely prepare yourself for it till it happens.

Unfortunately there's just nothing you can do. I tried Nioxin, biotin, protein, all of that stuff. I've even been on Rogaine since I was 15 and that didn't help either. I was in your boat, VERY fine, VERY thin hair and not much of it - to start with. So when it started falling out - I was worse off than most. The good thing is that it'll be over in a couple of months. Mine never grew back as much as I had to begin with, so prepare yourself for that too.  Good luck to you, this is probably one of the worst things about WLS, but there's nothing you can do about it. ENjoy your new, skinny body.

I noticed mine started to fall out last week, it's scary! I too knew it was a side effect, but I guess I thought I was going to be the lucky one, LOL! Thanks for posting and getting the suggestions.

I have had this problem too, and I finally gave up, decided it was worth the surgery even if I am totally bald, and started to buy REALLY FUN wigs. I am having a blast with all of my new hair styles, I have two wigs now, and nobody can even tell that I am wearing one, they all just thought I got extensions! My hair has not started growing back yet, but hey, I am alive, I am healthy, I am thin, and now with the help of wigs, I have the hair I have always wanted! It was traumatic at first, but now that I have a new outlook, I am totally fine with it.

I am also in the loseing hair phase and I'm taking Cellfood Essential Silica Formula.  They are drops that you put in your water.  It hasn't stopped the hair loss completely but it has definatly slowed it down.  I'm losing about 1/2 as much hair as I was before.  I started losing mine at 3 months and I started taking the Cellfood about 2 weeks ago and I'm now 5 months out.

I think I was 4 or 5 months out when mine started falling out.  Thought I was going to be lucky because most say theirs started at 3 months.  But....it did come out.  For me, it really slowed down about a month to a month and a half later.  Sure, you can see it thinned, but I feel SOOOO much better, I don't care all that much.  I know for the most part some will come back and if not, I'm okay.  I got it cut short and colored lighter which does help camoflage the loss. Good Luck and think about how good your are feeling and that most people are going to be looking at how fabulous you look and not your hair.

This topic came up about a week ago, and Brad B. shared the following:

I know this is a sensitive topic, especially for women.  I have always had thick hair, until now!  My kids are saying that I need a wig because my hair is so thin on top.

The good news is that I am losing weight and it isn't permanent.

My wife and I have both had the surgery and both had the issue.  My wife heard about a product from her hair dresser and she uses it now.  As a matter of fact, she submitted her pictures to the company and won $500!  She is featured on the website!  It is a make-up for  the scalp that helps your hair look thicker.

Hope this helps.  Here is the website:  http://www.dermmatch.com I went to the website, requested their brochure, and it came yesterday.  I'm not sure my hair loss is bad enough, but it's reasonably priced - so I may just try the stuff!
