I really wish that friends and family would just keep there mouths shut. If you don't have something nice to say don't say it all! They don't understand what we are going through. Did anyone mention you look great and you give me inspiration that I 'm gonna look that good too!

My Dear Sandine, Darla stole my word, but plain and simple, some people are just STUPIODITIC! They don't understand when they should use their filter and when they should just let words come tumblin' out of their mouths! I also agree and I said this to someone at the last PNC meeting that some people are just so used to seeing you fat that when you get down to "normal" they just think your skin and bones because they think you're "supposed" to be plump. The piece of advice I gave to the person at the support group was to respond like this, "Did that sound better in your head?" It's non-confrontational, but it helps the person stop and think about what they said without having to be defensive. People need to realize that sometimes their words are hurtful and we all (former fatties) need to learn how to help them see the error of their ways. We all know they are trying to show their concern - but geesh, sometimes their just being STUPIDIOTIC! With that said - I'm so sorry to hear that this affected you so much today and that it seems like you're getting more and more of the comments thrown at you. We're damned if we do and we're damned if we don't - no one's ever going to be happy with who or what or how heavy or thin we are - so just keep in mind how fabulous all your OH friends think you are and look and how much I idol you for being my hipless inspiration! I love ya girlie - YOU LOOK MARVELOUS!

I agree with everyone else. I think you always look stunning. This topic came up at our last group meeting beacause this has happened to others as well. Alot of times our friends have never seen us small, so when that happens they start seeing all these changes that they are not used to seeing (cheekbones, hipbones, etc.) and it is strange to them and then right away they think something is wrong. You know how you feel and how far you have come that is what matters most.

Surgeon's goal met, now on to the personal goal...

Hold up the first flash card that says "Did that sound better in your head?" And the second flash card "I hear stupid people". And then "Don't hate me because I'm beautiful". LOL They mean well, they really do and I guess you could look at it the other way where this friend feels she knows you well enough to tell you how she really feels, but at the same time, I think people should practice humility a little more and hold their tongues. Mama always said if you can't say something nice, say nothing. A compliment goes much further! Plus, if this friend understood WLS, she'd know your body will level off where it needs to. And, we'd all know if you become anorexic and I'm pretty sure we'd beat your butt about that, so rest assured darling, YOU LOOK FREAKIN' HOT! Muah!
