Need help with Iron Supplements
Hi everyone,
I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas. I managed to get back to MN the week before Christmas for my 9 month check-up. I just got a note in the mail today my iron is low. It was low at 6 months and I doubled my dosage. Now it's still low and they want me to double dosage again. I think I may need to change my supplement. I'm taking the chewable iron from Bariatric Advantage, I take 4 per day. Do you have an iron supplement you would recommend?
Thanks for your help,
Tracey
Hello Tracey (of the Tracey and Greg Show)!! First of all...how are you guys??? I hope all is going well for you in your new state. How is your Mom doing? At my 6 month, my iron and iron saturation levels were low. I was told to double my dosage as well. I take a supplement that I picked up at Target. You have to swallow it though. I make sure to take it with Vitamin C. That is suppose to help it break down better. Also, they say not to take it within 2 hours of anything with Calcium because that doesn't help it in breaking down. It is hard to get everything in. I am interested to see if at my 9 month if it has helped.
Please post an update on the Tracey and Greg show...I would love to watch! :)
Surgeon's goal met, now on to the personal goal...
I too have been really low since surgery, but I'm so sensitive to iron supplements that I struggled to take them.
This is one (ferrous fumerate - Vitron C) that PNC recommended I take, and after a few months my iron levels had improved MARGINALLY. So, they asked me to take 2 a day instead of one. So, now I take one in the morning with an extra vitamin C, and then the same at night before I go to bed.
I wont know if it is working for a few months, but I feel better, and this particular supplement doesn't upset my tummy or constipate me

Wow,
Thanks all for the replies and suggestions. I must admit, I have not been taking my iron with my Vitamin C, so maybe that is part of the problem. I somehow forgot that part of combining the two. I do make sure I don't take with calcium. Lori, your story is impressive. I will check out that supplement too. I can swallow pills. I just stuck with the chewable because I liked the taste.
Sabrina, thanks for asking about the Greg and Tracey Show. LOL! We are doing well. Greg has been sick all this week with a sore throat, but we finally found a walk-in clinic here and got him some antibiotics yesterday.
Greg loves his job and has acclimated well to commuting to the city by train every day. My job is going well too. I really love my new boss and our VP of Marketing. They have both been so great to me since I arrived in Boston. I'm traveling a bit more than I would like, but it's just because of what's going on with my product line right now. It should settle down some in the coming months. I got to go back to Ireland right before Christmas and that was so much fun. I managed to squeeze in some Christmas shopping between working.
We are still trying to sell our home in MN and have rented a little cape new my office. My commute to work is less than 8 miles and Greg drives about 2 miles to the train station. Pretty sweet! We love the short commutes.
How is everything going with you? How's the wait loss coming? I'm stalled out. I only lost 4.5 pounds since my 6 month appt. I need to kick up the exercise from nothing to something and drink more water. I'm down 110 pounds and Greg is down over 200 pounds. He looks amazing!
Take care,
Tracey
YAY for the update! I'm sorry your house here hasn't sold yet - we just had our bestest neighbors move back to Colorado, and their house sits waiting for a bite, too. It's not a fabulous situation, but it is what it is. I pray things will turn around after the first of the year. I'm glad you found a place and I'm assuming you have your precious Maddie back with you? Travis has her pictures in a folder on our desktop, I catch him looking at her with sad eyes. That kid certainly did fall in love with her! He and Rich are trying to plant the seeds in my head that we need to get Hazel a pet. yeah, right... I hope your mom is doing well! And Greg, too - bummer to be sick around the Holidays, but there have been plenty of cases of the crud around here, too. (Thankfully, not at OUR house - YET!!?!) You guys have been through a LOT in the past couple of months, so don't be too hard on yourself for the stall in your weight loss... I bet you both look FABULOUS!!! And I will continue to hope that on one of your trips to MN, we can get together for a visit!
Love ya -
