When something says Sugar free are there other ingrediants I should look for that might indicate there is some sugar in a product?   I think I read on this board somewhere that you can't always take a sugar free product for its word.

Hi Good question. It gets kind of tricky reading labels. Some things have "sugar alcohol" in them. This means it has maltitol, sorbitol etc. I generally look for things that are sweetened with Splenda. When looking at labels, there are some products that say "No sugar added" but still have sugar. What this means, is that there hasn't been any EXTRA sugar added, but usually has sugar in it. This can be the case with anything that has fruit in it. Fruit has natural sugar in it. Example, yogurt can say "No Sugar Added" but still have, say, 10-15 grams of sugar, because of the fruit. Basically, sugarfree means there is no regular sugar, but usually has artificial sugar, such as maltitol or sorbital. No sugar added, means there hasn't been any sugar added to the product, but it may have natural sugar in it, just not any extra added. Hope this helps. Happy Holidays!!! Pegy

Watch for trick words... No Sugar Added... that means no extra sugar added but still has some.

Watch Sugar Alch's... they are as evil if not more evil than sugar.  I dump horribly on these. I guess I should say that if its under four grams per serving Im ok'ish.. but that can be iffy. Look for sugar free with splenda... usually tasty or just another sugar free is good.  I just prefer splenda things.
