I was wondering if after you have the gastric bypass surgery can you still have children? I was told that I am a candidate and I would like to know this first, because I still would like to have a child.

Thank goodness I really want the surgery, and was told by Dr. Glass A week ago that I should get gastric I have been thinking about it for over a year and now going to go through with the process.
HI Carol its Tiff did you know that?
Yes, if you were capable of having children before surgery, you can have babies after. They want you to wait 18 months, however, because that is the time that you are loosing the most weight and your body would not necessarily be able to support the fetus and could lead to a miscarriage. They also ask that if you are fertile, you use birthcontrol of some kind, because as you loose weight, you become much more fertile because fat cells retain estrogen.
First of all welcome to the MN board....I don't think I have seen you on here before.
Yes, you can get pregnant after WLS. They ask you to wait at least one year after the surgery. By then your body has somewhat stablized. There are others on here that have been pregnant and all went just fine.
Good luck on your journey!!

Actually, they use this surgery for women that are having trouble conceiving due to obesity. I had a friend that was told that a fertility clinic wouldn't help her until she lost weight, her doctor suggested WLS and she conceived at I a (year out?). My cousin had surgery for the same reason. Just make sure to take your birth control (from what I hear two forms) and wait until the doc gives the okay to try.
Now....if you would like a child now....I can send over one of mine, that will be sure to cure you. LOL
You can have as many children after surgery as you'd like. I have Squishy to prove it! I had her earlier than my nurses and surgeon would have liked, but everything has turned out fine. PM me if you have any specific questions, I'd be more than happy to answer them for you.
