I picked RNY though I looked at Band, and the main reason I pick RNY is because I liked the long term success better with a RNY. Everyone is different. I didn't crave sweets at all, instead I ended up wanting salty, and I still do some what. But when I got pregnant all I wanted was SWEET!! Now that I'm not pregnant anymore I still crave sweet sot hat is a problem. I'm trying to get back to the lack of sweet...

When I was looking into the band, I was told that over the course of 10 years, the complication rate with the band is higher; albeit the complications are not nearly as risky as with RNY.  I was also told that the band is not as successful in women as it is in men and that a very high of weight you will also not be as successful. It really depends on your particular situation, but personally, I'm so glad I chose RNY over the band, what a pain to have to get fills and then if something gets stuck you have to get unfilled - not to mention that you have a foreign object inside of you that at any given time you body "may" decide to reject.  Of course, I'm probably highly biased because I've had a relatively easy time with RNY. Good luck on your decision.

One thing I found pre-op that played a big part in my decision (although I had pretty much gone with the RNY from the get-go), was the percentage of banders who end up having revisions to RNY.  I'm not talking about a HIGH percentage, but if that's something that isn't as unusual as a RNY patient getting a band, I figured I'd just go straight with the RNY.  Even the nurse conducting the info session I attended had started with a band and ended up converting to RNY.  Hello?  If a bariatric nurse went down that road, I'd just as soon learn from her experience.

But as everyone has said, it's such a personal decision, you just have to figure out where the pros & cons of each weigh in your mind.  Good luck to you, whichever you go with!!!
