kinda fun to share what are your family tradations
We go to my hubby's mother's house. Christmas Eve we eat dinner right after church, sing happy birthday to my nephew and have cake, clean up the kitchen and then open presents. One of the kids gets to be Santa. Then all the brothers and sisters play 500 until the weeee hours of the morning!!! One year we were all there the day before Christmas Eve and we played poker all day for money -- coins of course. My mother-in-law almost died when we dropped our huge bag of coins (all the winnings) into the collection plate on Christmas Eve!!! She still shakes her head and laughs!!!!
Can't wait !!!!
Wow....well,
On Christmas Eve day we go to my parents for dinner and gifts about 30 people there. Brothers and their families usually leave before church at 4:00pm. My mom, sister, daughter and I sing around the piano after we get back from church. Then we (mom, dad, daughter, son, sister, bil and myself) go to my dad's sisters house to spend some time, give hugs, etc before the candle light service at 11:00. We go to that service and go home from there.
On Christmas Morning, the kids and I spend alone and they open gifts and we have hot cocoa.
On Christmas Day, we go over to my mom's sisters for dinner and gifts about 60/70 people there. We sing Christmas songs there too. We get there at about 1:00 and don't generally get home until 9 or 10. Then we get home and collapse. LOL
It sure is a good thing I'm a single mom....can't imagine if I had to fit someone elses family in too.
Hi Rachel
Christmas is such a great time to spend with family. Years ago, we used to go to Ken's grandma's on Christmas Eve and his mom and dad's on Christmas Day, usually about 30-40 people. Since both his parents are passed away now, we would go to his brothers. This has all changed now. Since moving last year to California, we spent Christmas by ourselves. Wow, we sure miss those big Christmas's with Ken's family.
Wooohooo......this year, we get to have a FAMILY christmas again!!! Jennifer moved out here in August to go to school, and we're flying Linnea out here to spend Christmas in beautiful Reno with us. We're really excited!!!
Merry Christmas to you and your new hubby!!!!

Well, every year for the past 20 years or so, I have had the family all over on Christmas Eve. Since it is just my sister and I here in Minnesota we always have to get together for the holidays. Would not be the same if we altered it. Anyway, her family and my family as they have grown in the years all get together at our house around 6:00 or so after church services and we have dinner then open presents. A few years ago we started to draw names amoungst the kids and grandkids so that the younger adults don't have so much pressure to have to buy a bunch of presents. They all seem to like it much better and really enjoys picking out special gifts for the person they have drawn.
Then when dinner is done and after the gifts have been opened we all sit around and sing songs. The younger kids really enjoy watching my sister sing her special songs.....They are just funny songs like the 'Bumble Bee song and Springtime song. Other than that we also play some games and just enjoy being together.
Then on Christmas Day, we will get together with Sam's family. His brother usually has dinner in Blaine so we may go down there and join them for a bit. The guys then all sit around and play poker all afternoon!

This probably sounds 'Scroogy' but since my hubby died (a long time ago) we haven't been able to find a comfortable tradition to fall into. (He was sooo central to being and having fun! My heart just doesn't get into the decorating and baking mood.) With the 3 oldest kids now out of the house and 'way out of town, it's even harder to follow any traditions.
I do think I want to resume Midnight Mass on Christmas Eve. Funny how somethings from childhood can be important.
My family (hubby and kids, brother & his, and my mom) all get together on Christmas Eve after my brother and mom attend afternoon services. We just kind of graze all evening, many appetizers - usually a pot of seafood chowder, chicken wings, meatballs or smokies in BBQ, cheeses, crackers, cookies and goodies of all kinds. Will be interesting to see how THAT goes for me this year! I'm not worried. My pouch keeps me from over-doing it, as does my butterfly. Then we open presents and chat and laugh the evening away. When they leave, my family will head to the later Christmas Eve service at church. I refuse to give up the candle-lit part of Christmas Eve church service (even tho I always cry through Silent Night... I can NOT sing that song without choking up!)
Christmas morning, the kids wake up WAY too early, tear into their presents WAY to fast, and then sit & grin as they look 'em all over. We have a GINORMOUS rope bone for Hazel, so we'll have fun watching her tear that open! We make a big breakfast - pancakes, eggs, sausages. Then it's clean up, relax, play with toys, and head down to Rich's brother's for an evening meal & more presents. Nothing too unique or special, but special nonetheless!
Imperfect does not = unsuccessful
Among many things we do, one of my favorites is Midnight mass (alothough sometimes it is at 11!?!?!?).
Our son is one and a half this year, so presents will be a big deal again in our house. Christmas just isn't the same without excited kids around. My parents will spend the night Christmas eve, so they can be here to see Dillon open all of his gifts. Can't wait to make Traditions for him!
Happy Holidays All!
