To tell or not to tell?
I know we have talked about this before, but I am feeling guilty by not telling some people I have had WLS. The people are my patients, some I am ok with telling, but others I don't care to tell. When they ask how I am losing wt. I say diet and exercise which is true, but don't add the WLS, and then feel guilty that I'm not telling the truth. I need suggestions and encouraging words please.
I do the same thing. When people ask, I will tell the ones I am comfortable with and not tell the others. It's not like they are going to run out and start dieting and exercising just because I said that's what I am doing. I don't feel like I have to put a disclaimer on my weight loss. Don't feel bad! You don't have to announce to the world you had WLS!!
what about saying portion control and excercise? that is totally true. The word diet implies that your following a specific food list which could cause further questions. I don't tell everyone that I've had surgery either. To me it is a private matter and you have your reasons to tell or not to. Really Laura don't feel obligated to tell people anything you don't want to. And don't feel guilty about it. You are entitled to your privacy in all things. Especially your body.
BTW I'm planning to make it to the Dec. Coffey in Chaska... finally! I'm soo looking forward to meeting you.
Take care!

Ya know , I think I have shared this at meetings before, that this time I went the full disclosure route, but that is with people I know and co-workers, I did not take out an ad that said "I HAD WLS"
Being on many weight loss plans before, I always imagined people watching me go "up and down" when truth is, most people are too involved with themselves to even think about "us"
You don't owe anybody any explanation, learn to be comfortable with your own decisions without havig to justify anything, that's what I am working on
I say, feel proud of what you have gone through to lose weight. Shout it off the mountains. This was NOT and easy decision, and certainly is not easy. I tell everyone. BUT, that's the kind of person I am. Heck, if you want to know how my bowels are moving I'll tell you that as well.
Do what is comfortable for you! You can make it simple by just saying, "oh you know, this and that." That would kind of close the conversation.
Good luck to ya!
Hugs,
Lori
