Struggling...

Jean,  I have been having some of the same problems, but when I visited my NUT at my last Dr. appt, she said that a little bit isn't going to hurt - just control the amount (a small bite, not the whole piece/bag/etc) to cut the craving.  She told me that we are human, we are changing our eating habits by using the tool of surgery, and if we slip a little bit - it is normal, to not beat ourselves up over it, and move on.  She then added - but don't use that excuse for everything, either - there has to be some control, but by taking a small bit of something that we really want should help the cravings.  I hope that helps you - it has helped me. Just don't get too down on yourself about this - we have been so used to failing on our previous "diets" that now that we are successful, we often think that we shouldn't be.  Enjoy your successes and get past the "slips" and jump right back into the ring of fighting this problem that we all have...best of luck to you.  Have a Blessed Christmas!

Hi, Laura!  The key word is "control" isn't it!  And, you are sooooo right about getting past the slips and getting back in the ring!  Thanks for your help!  Take care, Jean

Jean, So sorry to hear that you're struggling.  I think you've already given yourself the kick in the butt you need - you're acknowledging that you're struggling!  I agree with the others that a little bit isn't going to hurt - but if you allow a little bit to happen all the time it will.  Once again, you're acknowledging it.  I too struggle with eating the foods (especially sweets) like I used to.  I've decided that my struggle with it, isn't just a lack of will power, that I have psychological issues that are causing my food addiction and eating disorder!  Yes, I have an eating disorder!  I don't believe that I got this way because I was lazy, I have issues that contributed to it.  I recently decided that I must start getting medical help with these issues or they will NOT go away - unfortunately, my RNY didn't fix my SUB (Screwed Up Brain).  Maybe if you think your eating habits have roots deep within you, you should take the same path to begin to deal with them.   Glad you came here for help!  I wish you well in your struggles - this is definitely not an easy road, but you will have a successful journey! Hugs! Tracy

Don't think you need a butt kicking.....you know what you need to do. A lot of good advice here. I don't eat anything with sugar...like candy, cake, cookies etc. because that is where my problems were before. I see those things and think I will get sick so I don't even want to go there. It is working for me. I haven't had those cravings. I never want those habits returning.  Good Luck.....hugs....connie d

Thanks, Connie!  You're right...I do know what I need to do!  I read some where that eating carbs (all those things you mentioned!) leads to more cravings.  Seems to be happening to me!!!  Now that I've tried a few of the foods that I was afraid to eat and didn't get sick/dump from them, it's gotten harder to say "no".   During the LD and right after surgery when there was no room for anything other than protein, it was easy to convince myself that I had to eat healthy or I'd get sick.  Now that I can eat more...I'm having troubles.  Thanks for your kind words!  Take care, Jean

I'm in the same boat! So, here's a kick for you, and here's a kick for me. Stress eating is a no, no!   And I've been doing a lot of that. So, I hear ya gurl! Good luck to you. Stay strong!!! Lori

Lori, Thanks for your support!  I knew many in our OH family would know how I feel.  Take time to have a hot soak or read a trashy novel.  Whatever works to DE-STRESS!  I don't think mine is stress eating, it's more like...I WANT TREATS eating!  Either way, a good square kick is all a girl needs sometimes (from a friend and metaphorically, of course)!   Take care Jean
