MnDot construction in the tummy

I had my open RNy on Tuesday from the open VBG -  Now I have the almighty MnDot doing construction on 35w southbound, when I go right or left, I hit a detour about 30 minutes later. The doctor gave me no pain meds and I just cannot get a good night sleep. 30 minutes at the most and then I have to change position and roll the belly over. I hope the construction that is going on does not take a year for recovery.Any suggestions?

My suggestion is to call the hospital right away and let them know you were released without pain meds.  I had Dr. Rupp and he prescribed them for me.  I didn't use too many as I really didn't have a lot of pain.  The other suggestion is walk as much as you can....I walked like crazy in the hospital and I swear, that's why I felt soooo good.  But definately call....can't imagine how pain meds got overlooked but it needs to get taken care of.

Open surgery is totally different pain wise than the laproscopic that most have. You need pain meds after an open, plain and simple. There is so much more swelling, scarring, and just plain more surface area involved, plus much more muscle involvement. It took me  a month after my second surgery to totally be able to sleep comfortably. Advocate for yourself, and get some pain meds. Heating pads on low also helped after the initial swelling went down. Just remember that if you are on narcotic pain meds, you cant' drive, however, after an open there are driving restricitions for a bit anyhow. I only needed the pain meds for the first 10 days, but I really needed them then. Good luck.

Sorry to hear that you can't sleep.  I would highly recommend calling and telling the doc and ask for meds to help!!!  Rest is a VERY important part of healing!!!  HUGS!

CAll, call, call and get those pain meds. You should have been given some. I'm sure it was an error on their part.  Good luck! Lori
