OT- I got the job!

Ok! I never did post an update to my whole work/Nan dilemna. Anyway, nothing ever did get resolved there. Although, I did meet with her and her boss today and feel a little was accomplished. Finally, they will be putting in writing that you are NOT allowed to get two consecutive holidays off in a row. I feel that Mark (her boss) really saw my side to things, and Nan could see that too. So, I hope this helps those who are left behind when I'm gone.  So, I had a job interview at Fairview Southdale last Tuesday. They offered me the job today. I will be working 64 hours per pay period with a $4.00 per hour raise. Yeay me!!! I debated on taking the job after I felt better that changes will be made at my work. BUT- I'm so unhappy there, that I think this will be a good move for me. I hope.  Now- do I stay through the New Year? Or do I put in a two week notice and take two weeks off before I start there? I was certain that I'd put in my two week notice now; but my conscience is telling me to stay so that they are not short staffed. The little person whispering in my ear is saying, "when has anyone shown that respect to you?"  There is only a handful of people that I care about there. I have never worked in an environment like this before. It's VERY 9th grade like, with the clicks and gossip. I feel like I'm an outsider there, being shunned by my own peers. So.......... what do I do?  TIA! Lori

Congrats!  Not to be a downer here, but I do have something to consider.  My sister once put her notice in to a dental clinic she was working at (3 weeks to be nice), and they told her there was no point in her being there at all for those last 3 weeks (and she is a good worker with a good work history).  So, essentially she was fired for giving notice, which is apparantly legal and defendable by employers.  My question to you.  Is this something your company would do?  And if so, could you live with that?   Sorry, I hope I didn't rain on your parade. Otherwise, go for it, give the notice right away, and take a break between jobs.  It's much more fun to go to a new job with a refreshed brain and attitude!

Actually, I believe that is illegal; but I don't know for sure. I don't see them doing that. That wouldn't be too smart of them seeing as we are short staffed daily. Anyway, thanks for the advice. I will keep it in mind.  Lori

Lori,Congrats on the new job! Will you be on station 88?
I would just give a 2 wk. notice and take some time off, you know for the most part any other nurse would think of themselves and not stay just so the others won't be short staffed. If you feel like an outsider now, you will feel it that much more after you give notice, and then you won't want to stay an extra 2 wks.Good Luck and keep us updated.
