Have any of you had gallstones or a gallbladder attack? Just curious if thats what I'm experiencing. I haven't had WLS yet though. I've had a persistant pain on my right upper side near the liver and it hurts SO bad and even when I breathe. I called my liver specialist today and they can't get me in until Monday, but I'm contemplating going to the ER. Just don't want them to think I'm over reacting.... Please help.... Melissa

Ultrasound may be in sight for you.  It's one of the tests usually run with WLS.  If it is bad, they remove it with the WLS surgery.   Good luck and don't worry about what the ER staff think -- go in if you need to.  Gallbladder attacks are horribly painful!!!

Thank you so much Barb. My WLS is currently halted, since it isn't covered by my insurance, so I'm considered "self-pay". So I feel like I want to go to the ER but at the same time what if its nothing? Then I'll look paranoid. It basically feels like a stabbing pain on the right upper side. Its just so persistant and getting worse as the days go by. This is day 3 of this now.  Thanks again for you help.  Melissa

Melissa, dear, GET THEE TO THE ER!   Better to go and have it be nothing, than to NOT go and have it be SOMETHING!!!   Better to be safe than sorry! An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure!  (okay, that one is borderline, but you get it...) Let us know how it goes!!!

I agree with the others...get your butt into the ER...you just never know what it could be. I had pain like that and it was my gallbladder. I had it removerd years ago. You can have it removed with WLS. Otherwise it is removed with three tiny incisions...nothing to it. connie d

Go to the ER! You don't want to jeopardize your health and days is too long for something like that to go on and not get better. I went to the ER last summer because I sliced open my finger with a cerated knife cutting buns for hamburgers on 4th of July. The cut was about an inch & a half and hurt like an SOB...called the Nurse line not trying to be a baby about it and she said to go in. All these people sitting on our porch waiting to eat and here I go....well, I get to the ER and the Dr tells me he could put stitches in but a band-aid would really do the trick. I was SO embarrassed...I begged him to make it look like more than a band-aid since the people at my house would NEVER let me hear the end of it if that's all it was. He was really nice about it and put a splint thing on it to make it look good and hurt.

Thanks everyone. I went to the ER. No gallstones (thank goodness) and they also couldn't find whats causing the pain.     So here I sit, still in pain because I don't like taking pain medication..... Melissa

I'm so sorry you're going through so much pain!  I wish I would have seen your post sooner.  I would have been pretty confident it wasn't gallstones because typically with gall stones it's a super strong pain, usually induced by eating something fatty, it usually isn't persistent, it's an attack that lasts maybe a 1/2 hour or hour and then miraculously goes away.

Anyway, you know it's not that anyway.  Hope you find a diagnosis soon.  I highly encourage you to take some pain killers - tylenol is best versus something with ibuprofen - having constant pain can really wreak havoc on the rest of your body because it causes you to tense up your body causing other pains.

Good luck with it and I hope you find some relief soon!
