Dr. Daniel Leslie

Hi Everyone, I'm new to this site and have some questions.  My surgery date is Dec. 21st even though I haven't received Ins. approval.  The Bariatric center at Abbott isn't  expecting any issues so they went ahead and scheduled me for surgery.  Let's hope they are right. First question:  Is there anyone out there that had Dr. Daniel Leslie for your RNY?  I was originally scheduled with Dr. Sayeed Ikramuddin but he will be out of town that week.  I only met Dr. Ikramuddin twice but was satisfied he had done enough surgeries to make me comfortable.  Dr Leslie is his associate  and will be doing my surgery.  I will be meeting him next week for the 1st time and wonder if anyone has any history on what kind of a surgeon he is.   Second Question:  I suffer from Migraines and don't know what to expect after surgery.  Any other folks out there that have the same issue?  If so, what have your post surgery headaches like? Appreciate any info you have to share with me. Thanks, Bonnie

Dr. Leslie is his associate, I believe Dr. Ikramuddin trained him in (could be wrong).  I first heard Dr. Leslie's name about 2 years ago.  It should be fine, but if you are uncomfortable (cancel and reschedule).  Abbott is a great hospital.  Good luck.   

You are right about Dr. Leslie.  He did train with Dr. Ikramuddin and has worked side by side with him for about 2 years.   The nurse at the Abbott Bariatric Center said he is great and his patients love him.  I'm meeting him for the 1st time next week.  Just found out today that Medica lost my paperwork from Abbott so it needed to be sent to them for approval.  My surgery date is set for Dec. 18th so I hope approval comes quickly.  Send some positive vibes my way.  This is a great site!  Thanks for the welcome.

He only finished his fellowship this June I believe, but did train with Dr Ikramuddin, so he had the best.  Dr Ikramuddin has many, many more years of experience though, so you need to weight the pro's and con's of each surgeon and each program.  I think once you meet him and get a feel for his personality, it might help make your decision easier.  I know if I get a good vibe from a doc that goes a long way with me.

Hello & welcome. Which med(s) do you take for your migraines? I only ask because with RNY, some of those meds are on the "do not take" list. I've heard of Dr. Leslie also and I agree everyone starts somewhere, but when you're talking about rearranging your innards, I start getting a little leary...gosh, hard call. Keep us posted, though. You may be making history here.

I take Imitrex 50 mg pills and shots.  I believe both are ok after RNY.  I know the shots will work and the pills are tiny so shouldn't be an issue either.  No one at the Cr's office has told me they will be an issue.  I know my Celebrex is a NO NO.   Your comments are the same ones that keep going through my mind.  If I look at the Bariatric surgeon stats he's done as many as some of the others who have been around a little longer.  I will ask for referrels when I go in next week and make my decision based on facts.  The only reason I am considering him is he works very closely with Ikramuddin.  Ya.....I guess I could be a pioneer here.  Not unusual for me.  My insurance may make the decision for me.  If they don't give me approval in 3 weeks my surgery will roll into 2008 and then I am back with Ikramuddin.  I'll keep you posted.  I appreciate everyone's comments and it's great to have a board like this to go to and get input but it will all come down to my opinion on Dr. Leslie.

I had to find this old post and do an update on my surgeon Dr Leslie.  I couldn't be more pleased with a surgeon.  He is meticulous and very comfortable to be around.  I had my post-op appointment with him today and he took all the time I needed to answer all of my questions.  I recommend him highly and would do it all over again with him.   Great surgeon!!!
