I promised I wouldn't but....

I just can't help but go to my absolute favorite restraunt one last time.  So, I am getting together with a friend of mine and going to The Melting Pot in downtown Minneapolis tonight.  I know that I will not be able to eat there after surgery because of the richness and quantity of food.  My Mom and sisters urged me not to go, but it has been over a year since I have been there and I would really like to enjoy it this one last time.  Plus, this is the absolute last day of old eating for me since tomorrow I start my 10 day liquid diet.  On the plus side my sister gave me an assortment of SF jello as a little gift yesterday!

It's ok!  Just don't over do it because you wouldn't want to have to cancel because of gain!  Hang in there!  Your day is almost here!!!!  YAY!

Here is my feeling on the whole 'final feast' issue. I started my liquid diet a day early, and in the middle of the LD and for the first few weeks after surgery I actually MOURNED not having that one last real meal while I still could.

It is hard to image at the stage you are at, and during the first few months...but you WILL eat again :)  Probably even at The Melting Pot.  Remeber that during your LD and the first couple of tough months.  Good luck!

Hi Nicole...the decision is yours to make.... enjoy your meal! That LD isn't so bad...I didn't mind it at all. It felt good to be cleansed of all that food. Watch the pounds slip away!!! I hope you have a great day....

Nicole,  Don't feel bad about this.  As someone else said, you may be able to eat at The Melting Pot later, but for now, you have to go through the mourning period for losing your "best friend" (food), and if having this last meal at The Melting Pot is what does it for you - do it. Just don't overdo it.  I overdid it on mine (ate a whole 10" pizza the night before) and was sick from it.  The liquid diet isn't all that bad, knowing what I was doing it for and how my life would be changed for the better made it much easier to stick to it.  Have fun at the Pot today.

My DH and I did the same thing about a week before surgery. Our favorite restaurant is Ruths Chris and we SO enjoyed the steak that night. Ironically, that was the same night as the bridge collapse and we left the restaurant without knowing what happened. As we were driving home it was soon made clear as we would have driven over that bridge on the way. Since we had to find an alternate way anyway, we stopped to watch and grieve the tragedy a bit. Even more ironic was in the horizon just over the bridge we saw the UofM site where I'd had my surgery appts & would be having surgery the next week. This event really got me thinking about assuming nothing is sacred in life and to enjoy and savor every moment. Turns out too that we enjoyed a great meal, I had been doing SO well with the pre-op weightloss that I couldn't eat as much as I had before anyway so it was not that big of a deal to do the big dinner. We went back to Ruths Chris in celebration of a new job/big promotion about 2 months after surgery - I'm so glad we went there before because the passion for the taste of the food just wasn't the same as pre-op. Of course, I couldn't eat much of my food and the food I did eat wasn't nearly as enjoyable - but my DH and I enjoyed a quality experience together anyway. All I can say is live life to its fullest everyday and enjoy the company of the ones you love, your food will nourish you in the end - it's not the main goal anymore. God bless the success you achieve in this WLS journey!

Heres my thoughts on this subject..... Go have your yummy...fill your tummy to max.... ( cos ya know after your gonna say...OOO you over did it and feel like crap )  but youll have done it for the emotional part of this journey. My second thought is dont think of never being able to go there again.  I can go there...I can sit and have wine and order some food.  The whole thing is I CANT overdue anymore. If I do Ill be sick..... so your still thinking with your current stomach. I could go there and get my protien on!!!  Its just forced better choices... So my love..........go fourth and eat!!!!!!!!!!! Eat with your old tum for me!!!   :) Youll do just fine!   But I believe if I didnt have my last meal then onto hiatus I would have felt bummed. Hope this helps and makes some sense. Hugs

Thanks, unfortunately they were booked until 8:30 tonight, so instead I am thinking of going to Olive Garden instead.  It also depends on what my friend would like to do so I am not sure what I am doing yet.  We may have dinner at Olive Garden and then go to the Meltinr Pot for dessert since I know chocolate fondue will not be on my menu for a long time if I ever allow myself to have it after surgery.  Thanks for the support!
