What is this pain???

Happy Thanksgiving to all you lovely people out there!  I sure could use a support group or coffee....I need sisterly love!! I am having a horrbile pain in my abdomen, like a straight line to the left from my belly button, not even an area where I think they did much if any work!  It started a couple days ago and then pretty much disappeared, but today I was sitting on the floor and sneezed and the pain was absolutely intense!  The pain is just horrible!  It feels like my insides are ripping and then burns like I am on fire!  This afternoon it had me in tears and trying to catch my breath.  My mom managed to get me to bed and lay down on my back.  I laid there for a little more than an hour and tried to lay on each side and the pain intensified.  I am now sitting up in the living room and just finished eating my soup and pudding and the pain is still there.  It hurts to touch....blah, blah, blah! Has anybody had anything like this?  Do you think this is anything more than maybe stretching or pulling a muscle? I was doing so well, and now I feel like I have taken a couple steps backwards!  So, just was wondering if anyone has had this right after surgery.

Teri, I think you are a realatively new post-op???  I would not mess around with any pain so soon out.  I would call your Dr at the least, that is why they have "on-call"  Holiday or not it doesn't take long to start getting into some serious issues if you have a leak, or maybe it is something simple. One way or another, Better cautious I always say. Linda

Hey Teri! I'm 16 days post-op (RNY - 11/6/07) and experienced the identical pain radiating my lower abdomen for about 5 days starting last weekend.  I agree it was very intense and even made sleeping and getting up and down from a chair difficult.  I described this to my home RN Monday during her visit.  After a detailed assessment, it was determined to be gas trapped in the newly-constructed small intestine.  I then used wram packs every several hours yesterday and the pain was gone by this morning.  If that doen't work, by all means contact your Bariatric Surgery Center.

Teri....be on the cautious side and contact your surgeon. Yes it could be gas or it could be a leak or something. Please don't take the chance that it will just go away! Let us know what you find out okay. Hugs, connie d

Hi Teri!!  Sorry you are in pain!!  If I were you I would just call to ease my mind!!  THEY are great and have heard it all and would know if you should go in or give you advice to ease your pain!  Remember your body just had major surgery!!!  Keep us posted hon!!

By all means, Teri, check it out with the doctor's office.  As was said - they have heard/seen it all and will most likely be able to tell you what to do to lessen the pain, or tell you to get into the doctor's office right away - don't wait.  I don't want to scare you, but if it is something serious, they will want to get it fixed right away...if it is something like gas, that can be taken care of for you too.  Keep us posted on how you are feeling! And, congrats on becoming a loser!
