Hey dear!  WOW!  I do sympathize!  The thing with this surgery is a weight restriction of no lifting and in daycare you'd be tempted to lift.  Also, surgery type and open or lap will greatly determine the correct answer.  REMEMBER!!  Your health is the most important and in the begining stages after surgery you shouldn't pu****  Each person is different in their recovery so it is a hard question to answer. I wish you all the best in your decision!

My sister had laposcoptic and had her daycare up and running 1 week later.  Sandie gave good advice, it is about your health.  Maybe you know someone who could come and help you out for a few days. Tammy

I was ready to go back to work a week later, but my nurse wouldn't let me. Ask you clinic/Dr. what they will allow you to do. I think you would be ok if you had someone there to help you out.

Good Luck

Less than a week later is really pushing it.  I had lap but ended up in the hospital for 5 days instead of 2.  If you have any complications, you may be in longer.  And if you have open, the less than 2 weeks is really pushing it.   What are you and your daycare family back up plans if you didn't have surgery coming up?  Do you have a vacation clause with any of them?  If you don't have any, this may be a good time to incorporate some --- unforeseen cir****tances come up every day.  And you should be taking a vacation every year any way -- just to spend time with your family somewhere.  I would suggest you just have someone at your daycare full time for the first week that you are in the hospital and on call for the same just in case for the second.  But you are still going to need help for another two weeks because of the lifting restriction.  You surely don't want to get a hernia -- which is not hard to get..... I'll pray you find someone who can come help you full time to make your decision easy and the burden on the families less.   XXOO

Hi there

I also did daycare when I had my surgery 5+ years ago. This is what I did...... I took my 2 weeks vacation at that time. I was also lucky, cuz my hubby was laid off, so he helped me out for the next 4 weeks. I had 2 small babies and knew that I wouldn't be able to lift them for 4-6 weeks. In my humble opinion, make sure that you don't lift too soon. The time for that depends on your surgery and type of surgery. I had mine open. If you can get some help, I would highly recommend it.

Do you have in your contract that you are entitled to vacation? If so, I would definately use it for recovery time after surgery.

Good luck to you and hope all works out.

Hi I decided I am taking the time off I will be off from dec 13 -27th and my mother in law will be here to help me after that.  As far as my families go I never take time off and this is a shock to them.  I have been in daycare for 2 1/2 years and have maybe taken a total of  7 days off.  I am starting at the beginning of the year no one will get vacation days to use you will pay when you are here or not then they know what they pay and never have to worry about it.  I never complained to them when theu used vac days I never made them feel bad so screw em !!!!!  lololo        thats not nice of me I am sorry (my bad) .   They never think of how I had to pay bills ya know.  Anyway I am sorry for rambling Thanks everyone  for your concerns and thoughts it helped me out alot....... You guys are great I was scared to come on here at first because I am really shy believe it or not and if I were to meet you I'd more then likely crap my self again!!!!!!!lol just joken  now you guys can't get me off of here this is my addiction anyway i want to thank all of you you are all great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tough one... My rambling thoughts: Take the time off to heal, the families would be in no better situation if you didn't do this. If the families are going to leave for this reason alone, they would probably leave at some point anyhow. If they really trust and love you & your daycare, they won't want to leave just because of this time off. As a mom who has her children in an at-home daycare, it is hard to find backup daycare when a family member is not available because it means I have to pay double for care. But, I also know that there are ways to cut spending that week (skip Caribou or Starbucks for example, bring lunch from home instead of eating out, etc.) to make up for the extra money spent on care. So, it really isn't such an issue when it boils down. Have you told your families why you will be out? I do think it is personal of course, but I also know that the daycare provider and parent(s) really have to have a trust and if my provider would not tell my why she needed to be out for a week or two, I would be concerned. If she even simply said "I am needing to have a surgery and the recovery time is technically 4 weeks, but I believe I will be back to caring for your children within 1 or 2 weeks.." that would be better than not explaining anything. Plus, in your situation, your families are going to notice your weight loss - so they may wonder what's going on if you don't tell them now anyhow. Does your licensor have any feedback for you at the County? Good luck, and my instinct says take the time off for your health because you won't be any good to anyone if you don't. Bottom line!
