Question for everyone, How does everyone handle eating out with family and friends??  Like not getting distracted when you are trying to concentrate on eating.  I am finding that I eat too fast and tonight, I ate way too fast and got sick because I think I was stuck ( I was hurting and uncomfortable and had to throw up). Soooo.......I was wondering if there were any ways to not get too distracted when eating??  I can't avoid these outings, but maybe thought if someone had a suggestion on what to do? Thanks!!!

I ate before going out. Then I drank my water at the table and just concentrated on the conversations.  Part of getting together is the conversation and I'm drinking was and feel fine cause I've had my meal earlier. Just a suggestion.....

Hey Lucy ~

In the beginning, I would go with 'safe' foods.  Soup, mashed tators...etc..  Otherwise what Barb does is a GREAT Idea..!

I have gotten real focused on what I have to do. It has turned into sort of routine.

Its just old habits...when your out to eat set down your fork all the time and just visit. Try to take the focus off of being out and eating ... to being out and visiting. Im always left sitting done eating wayyyyyyyy before others are.  Then I kinda sit there in awe of how much they eat and how they complain how crappy full they feel LOL

Good luck

I do what Linda does. I make sure I put my fork down after every bite and focus on the conversation while I chew, chew, chew. It takes practice. I deal with the wanting to eat fast every day at lunch. I watch how fast people eat. I want to say, "slow down!" But I have to tell myself that instead.  Good luck gf! Hugs, Lori

Good morning sweetie! Yes, I do the same as Linda....I take a bite and put my fork down.  Concentrate on conversation and not so much on eating. I like Barb's idea of eating before too.  Good luck! Hugs, connie d

It does take practice, Lucy - getting stuck is DEFINITELY a sign of eating too fast, so you've already identified that!   So take your small bite, put your fork down, put your hands in your lap or under your thighs, and don't let 'em up until you're good & ready for another bite!   You ROCK, Ms. Lucy!!!

Thanks for all the suggestions everyone. That happened to me too, and I have a 2 yr. old bouncing around all the time and I have the hardest time focusing on myself, so I've gotten to the point I don't even want to eat with anyone or even food, but thanks for the good info, and I will use the fork method.
