My suggestion is to have an HR person with you when you talk to Nan.  This way, when she starts to quote "the" policies, HR is there to verify those policies.  And when you counter with policy not being followed, HR can intervene right there.  You have the right to have HR come to this meeting so don't feel pressure from her to meet now.  Just call HR and ask that they come to a meeting between you and her to ensure no one is in the wrong.  HR has to attend if you request it.  I would also request that HR set the meeting up between them, her and you.  This way she knows HR is involved right off the bat and won't slough them off like she may be doing to you.  That in itself may resolve the issue -- she may say she is sorry she didn't have time to talk to you on Friday, but she has that time covered and you can take off now.  Even so, still meet with her and HR to ask that a formal policy be drawn/written up and implemented whereby all employees know the process and each can see it being implemented.  This is to make sure other requests from all employees are not misconstrued in the future and that everyone is on the same page.  This will seem proactive to problems that may arise in the future, rather than reactive to your personal situation.  Then come up with some sort of plan suggestion that she and HR can begin to work with.  At my office the support staff have a calendar they can all access but changes are made by the supervisor of the support staff.  The name and date of the request for time off is in there.  This way someone can see if someone else is already approved for the time they want off.  But they can't have more than 1/2 of the staff out at a time either.  And you are allowed to apply for the time six months in advance but no sooner.  And they are not allowed to go in the hole to take time off when others who have accrued time still have balances to be taken.  That way one person isn't taking all the holidays.  No two holidays in a row so others can have every other plans (one year you have Thanksgiving with your family, the next you have Christmas).  But if a family emergency or something comes up, that has presidence over all.  I hope this get resolved for you.  But in the meantime, you have had enough problems with her you should be transferring out.  And if it is a personality comflict, she will probably be more than willing to let you transfer before a required year is up. Hi Lori, so sorry you are having this situation AGAIN. I don't think you are going to get anywhere with Nan and going to HR is probably your best direction. WTG on your 100# weight loss and what a great gift. I could not live without my Ipod now. Is there still a SW coffee in Eden Prairie? I just had my band replaced last Tuesday, so would like to catch up with everybody. Sending you love and prayers that things go well for you. Take care. Mary

Thanks Mary! I think there is still a SW coffee. But we haven't had one in a while. I think the next one should be next Saturday (this coming Saturday). I believe we have switched weekends so that it's not the same time as Maple Grove coffee.  Good luck with your new band. I hope this one works for you.  Hugs, Lori

Lori, you have plenty of "ammunition" to present to HR.  I hope you can keep your anger and emotions in check, so that your presentation to them is factual, and the situations you share will show the unbalanced treatement you have received.  The facts are strong enough, and emotion can have a negative effect in that situation.  I know how upset you are about this, and I sure can't blame you!  Hopefully your actions with HR will cause her to re-examine how she manages her people.   Oh, and GOOD LUCK with your other possibility!  Let me know what happens!!!

Thanks Darla! I think I may just take one of my Xanax tomorrow "just in case". Because you are right, I need to be able to keep my emotions in check. Oy........ more butterflies in my tummy! I will let you know about the other possibility when I call them tomorrow. Keeping my fingers crossed.  Hugs, Lori

(((Lori))) I don't know that I have much to offer outside of what everyone else has said, but I wanted to voice two thoughts that come to mind. 1. I once heard this: "If you have butterfly's in your stomach, that means you are about to do something great." Look at it as a positive thing and know they are there for a reason. 2. Because I know you have had issues with Nan in the past, it does seem from like what you share with us that she does have something personal against you. You can't "prove" it, but you can document just like you have and I think it is a good time to go to HR with it. But, I am an employee who does not believe that it is going over a supervisor's head by going to HR, especially if you feel you're being treated unfairly. That is what they are there for IMO. My experience with HR is also that they like to see you come in with solutions for the situation. If you can think of any (such as the vacation calendar, etc.), that should help as well. Best of luck in the morning, you will be fine. And yes, I agree, do your best to keep your emotions calm and in tact and you will be fine! Let us know how it goes, we'll be thinking of you!!! Try to rest well tonight.
