I had a low grade fever when they let me leave the hospital 99.3, it's not gone up to 100.8 then I took my Lortab and now its 100.1. I have one of those $10 cheapy thermometers...not sure how accurate it is, I feel warm not burning though. I know they say to call at 101, I'm breathing good, walking and sipping, only now that I took the Lortab it knocks me out....should I be really worried here?? Am I just overly picky...just call when and if it goes to 101 I suppose.... Thanks!!

Sherry....I would call just to be safe and see what they say.  If it is the start of an infection or something, you want to take care of it right away.  If they want you to come in...don't drive yourself.

In additon to what everyone said, Make sure you are using your Incentive spirometer AND are deep breathing.  How do your incisions look?? Are they weeping or draining??  Are you in a lot of paina ndif so, where.  Many things can cause fevers.  Besides infection, just the fact you had major surgery can put your body into major shock and response.  How does your body respond, it activates you wbcs and sends them to the area of trauma (surgery) and your body will respond with a low grade fever, thats one reason, surgeons tell you to call if greater than 101, because they know that this can happen.  Pain can also cause a fever, dehydratin can cause a fever.  OR there is the possibilty you went into surgery and were coming down with something and didn't know it.  Sooooo yes, I agree if you think something is wrong, its better to call.  Especially if it is going up!!!!!!! I hope this helps and I didn't confuse you!!!!!!!

Hi Sherry...I totally agree with the others here...I would call in just to ease your own mind and to be sure there isn't anything else going on.  Let us know what you find out...god luck. Hugs, connie d
