I had my surgery there in 2008 with Dr. Schram (who is now in Holland).  Unlike a previous poster, I did not find it dirty, but very clean.  I had a good experience considering I had some issues post op not from surgery but from pain meds.  I have recommended Barix to others.

Barix Clinics has one in Ypsi that meets third saturday of each month from 10-12.  I am in Wayne County and have been trying to find something closer to home.  But maybe this will be good for you?

Dr. Gluck and his whole team are wonderful. I live about 3 hours away from him and also did a self pay. I would not change a thing about the whole process!! Do wish he were closer so I could do more after care appointments in person instead of over the phone. But am VERY glad I have the option to do them over the phone! Best of luck to you!

I currently live in New Orleans. My surgeon is AMAZING. She did my Lapband, Slip fix, and RNY. I can't say enough good things about her. Leaving her is really one thing that I'm having a hard time with. I need an amazing surgeon. Preferably a woman, kind, brilliant. Anyone know of any!?

Thanks!

No, actually I've lost a total of 36.4 pounds (still need to change my ticker) over a total of 6 weeks....pre-op diet to current.  I am pleased with my weight loss overall, but this last week I only lost 2 pounds.  Doesn't seem like a lot for as little as I'm eating.

Congrats to your sis and dd on their weight losses.  I'm with your dd in that my weight loss needs to be 100+ pounds.  My doc requested a 100 pound loss, but I set my goal at about 108 pounds.....but would be thrilled to drop about 120.  We'll see how it goes.

Btw, my dd, dsil, ds1, sis, 2 nieces and 1 nephew have all had lapband surgery.  They were all banded about 5+ years ago, so the VSG wasn't really an option so much at that time.  Their lapbands have resulted in mixed success.  My dd is tiny (119#), but she is also now a half-marathon runner.  My ds1 lost about 100 pounds, but has regained about 50 pounds.  My surgeon said that he rarely does lapbands anymore because they just don't give the results they originally thought they would.   My surgeon only did 2 lapbands in the last year.  Quite frankly, he just doesn't recommend them anymore.  I hope you can get your revision to VSG.  How much weight did you lose with your band?  How much weight do you have left to lose?

My surgery center has a support group meeting that meets once a month on a Monday night.  It is nearly impossible for me to make those meetings, due to my babysitting schedule with my grandkids.  Also, the support group meetings are geared to ALL weight loss patients, as well as pre-op patients.....and they are very repetitive.  I'd like to find a group that is more specific to post-op questions and concerns, and hopefully at a time when I can actually get there.

Gotta scoot.  Today is my dh's 56th birthday and I'm having 2 of our kids and gkids over for dinner, so I need to do some prep work now.  (Our oldest ds lives in Indiana with his family, so that's why he won't be here.)

Take care.

Yeah you can come  to the support groups. We have a lot of people that come before they have the surgery. It helps with answering any  questionst that you have before surgery.
I will do my best to be there, I have some company business on the first wednesday of August but will find a way to get there. How many people normally attend?

You've lost 34 pounds in a month and you think that is slow?

My sister and DD both got sleeves after they saw what I went thru with the band.
Both of them did a stale not sure but, think it was 3/4 weeks out.
The body must have been shocked than they both took off but stales along the way.
My DD lost over 100 pounds and is  two years out.  She if up 15 pounds from her 1yr low
and 20 from goal.

I'm sure if I get the sleeve she will get motivated.  Can't have Mom weighing less

Good luck I sure hope you find a group.  I know there where paople here from your
area 3 years ago.  Does you surgey center have one.

BAND REMOVED 9-4-12-fought insurance to get sleeve and won! Sleeved 1/22/13! Five years out and trying to get that last 15 pounds back off.

It's been going fairly well, thank you.  I'm having a really hard time getting all the food, fluid, and protein shakes in each day, but I feel terrific.  I am a little disappointed that my weight loss has slowed so much, but will continue to plug along.

Best of luck to you in being approved for the VSG!
