I'll jump in here....My name is Colleen, I am 47, married with 2DD (9&24) and 2 GC (3&5), and a mini schnauzer.  I had surgery 11/18/2008 at Barix in Ypsi with Dr. Schram.  I have since had my gallbladder out (8/2010)and have struggled with iron-deficiency anemia that began last summer, but getting better in that respect.  I have had some trouble with sticking to the program of late and since my GB surgery in 8/2010, I have gained back 30 pounds.  I am now trying to consciously work on my bad habits and hopefully get this 30 back off.  Unfortunately, I never met my goal weight of 170, and now that I have gained 30, I am 50 pounds from goal.  Grrr.

Hi Susan,

I am in Dearborn.  We may not be close, but we can still support one another.

What sort of health issues have you had?  I had to have my gallbladder out at almost 2 years postop and I have been fighting iron-deficiency anemia since last August after several months of worsening fatigue and shortness of breath (thinking the worst of course, like a heart issue--thank goodness it wasn't that).  My hemoglobin and hematocrit are stable now, but my iron stores are still very low (in the toilet as it were).  I do think that both of those problems helped me down the path I have been on.

I go to Dr Kia at McLaren. He is a great doctor that really cares and takes the time with you. I had some problems over a year ago and ended up in the hospital. Dr Kia was to see me in the hospital just about everyday that I was in there. His staff at the office is great to work with too.

People used/still come from Tri-city area to hurley in Flint.  I know they have Center in the area now hope someone comes and chimes in for you.  McLaren in Flint has a center and I know one of the Docs left Hurley to start it and he was great.

I would still try to make it to the next McL support group just in case it helps.
Doc W also would have been happy you are here.
He is the one that told me of these boards.

Good Luck with your E-vale

Topic: Need support. Trying to get back on track
Hello everyone.

I haven't been on the boards in a couple of years, but I am back because I have fallen off the wagon.  I have let old habits creep back in and sabbotage my weight loss.  It all began in August 2010 (2 years postop) when I had my gallbladder out.  I began eating more carbs, grazing and snacking throughout the day, and when I finally got a new job (had been unemployed for the previous 2 years), I started gaining weight.  At first it was only about 9-10 pounds, which I attributed to winter weather and lack of exercise.  But once I was back to work, it spiraled out of control.  I began eating foods I had previously been avoiding (like chocolate and other sugars), eating less protein, drinking more diet pop and, GASP, drinking with my meals.  I have now gained about 30 pounds and I am totally disgusted and beating myself up, and of course, feel like a big failure.  So I am back on here with a new user name (previously was ColleenJ2, I believe it was) and am hoping to find support and encouragement to get back on the horse as it were and start ridding myself of these extra 30 pounds, and maybe even a few more than that seeing as I never got to my goal of 170, but when I look at that big picture it seems impossible to lose 56 pounds.
