Topic: RE: Beaumont weight loss clinic and blue care network
Couple ideas....

Call other Bariatric Hospitals from the BCN list and ask what their fee's are and if they require payment upfront or allow/help with payment plans. I've heard there is some difference in cost and believe Beaumont might be the most expensive. Worth checking into.

Call insurance back and ask them to print and mail you the section of your policy that deals with Bariatric surgery. Not the summary- the fineprint is what you want! You want to be sure they really only pay 50%. You also want to know what your deductible is and if you have an out of pocket cap on medical which might leave you actually paying less then you think. For example my insurance pays 80% of the surgery. My deductible is $300, my out of pocket max is $1500. So I actually will pay less then my 20% of the surgery.

Do some digging and see if anything you find will help you when you talk to insurance. It took me 3 tries to get the correct information from my insurance and I think it was me reading them this info that made them dig a little harder on my behalf. Ask for clarification on everything several times and be sure to get the name of the person you talk to everytime. Here are some BCN/BCBSM links that helped me --

Topic: RE: gastric plication
 Hello,
I am doing very well after my surgery! I have lost 80 pounds! I dont need to lose any more and actually am about 20 lower than what Dr. Gluck figured I would end up being at :) I dont have any issues from the surgery. At the first few weeks I did have problems with my blood sugar dropping from not eating much. But it stablized after a while and has not been a problem since. I do have constipation troubles some due to eating so much protein but from visiting this site seems that comes with all the surgeries. Good luck with your appointment and keep me posted! If you have any other questions feel free to contact me.

Hey, nice to see you posting, glad to know you are doing well.  I remember being amazed that you were able to stay healthy working in a restaurant.

I look in from time to time but seldom have much to say.  I hit six years with some bad habits to break.  Blood pressure still down, diabetes still resolved but I had to buy larger clothes.  This is stopping now!  A regain of 18% of the original loss still isn't too shabby.

Say hi to Stacy for me, I checked facebook but couldn't tell which one she was.  Ever hear from K.P.?

Do you know or have you done the 6 month diet yet?  Health plus required me to do that but, I had already did it with pcp before starting the process.  Not sure if they still require it or if just for certain bmis

Your four days out now.  How is it going?

When I told them I would take a cancelation, she said we almost never get them.  As you know a few spots opened and the same happened to me.  So, it must be very common.  I wish I would be there with you but, I'm not till the 4th and you should be long gone by than.

I am so happy to hear Dr. Farhan talked you out of the band.  Dr Wagner told me at my appointment he was never pro band  When I saw him pre surgery he said no
such thing.  I even asked if he felt there was any reason to choose one over he other.
I looked to him for advise and he said I would be good with either and there was no
reason for me to pick one over the other.

It really is to bad you can't have your surgery closer to home.  I know your center is a
COE and that Hurley had been doing the surgeries the longest in this area.
Dr. Farhan is a good surgeon and has done many.  The odds are you will be in a room
in the burn unit after surgery.  My DD got the room mate from hell, a burn patient that had
been there awhile and wanted a private room.  I too had a Godawful roomie.  She was a
band patient.  My sister had a good roomie so you never know.  The staff at the hospital
can be hit or miss too.

Anything else PM me ok?

What are you having.  I went thru Hurley too.
I'm having the bypass--went to the first meeting thinking I was interested in the band but once I talked to Dr. Farhan he convinced me the bypass would be the better option.. I kind of wish I could have the surgery done in my home town of Saginaw--the hospital my daughter works at has been declared a COE and they do the surgery here but my PCP only refers to Hurley because they have been doing the surgeries much longer so have a better track record. How did you like the program at Hurley? , good hospital?, good nursing staff?  I already know I will have a filter put in for blood  clots because I have a history of blood clots in the lungs and that the surgery will be "open" because of a previous surgery for hernia repair there is a VERY large piece of surgical mesh in one of the areas they would use for the lap surgery. Have to admit I'm concerned about that--everyone says the lap surgery is so much easier to recuperate from--oh well, I guess it is what it is. Any info you can give me about the hospital will be appreciated--thanks.
