Geez. I guess not! I've been asking on and off since I've been a member. Seems everyone is too far spread apart in the state. I'm in the Pontiac area.

I'd love a group. My surgeon was out of Harper downtown Detroit and it's just too far for me to go. It takes an hour, then parking....

I am sure that you will do great. Dr. Kia's staff is wonderful if you have any questions. There are always support groups too at the office. Best of luck to you!

I got my 'packet' in the mail yesterday with all the dates and detalls, including the pre-op diet which is just as you said and doesn't look too difficult. That starts in a little over 30 days.
Thanks again for your help Nancy

Topic: Starting Pre-Op diet on Tuesday, 9-25-12

Well, I got all my information a couple days ago and Tuesday is "D-Day," so to speak.  I begin my pre-op diet.  I kind of had information overload a few days ago.  Due to my surgery being moved up to 10-5, I got a lot of information all in one day from the great staff at Dr. Kia's office.   I still have to have my "Mindful Eating" seminar, but that isn't until Oct. 3rd, 2 days before my lap band surgery.

Last April, when I started this whole process, October seemed light years away.  Now, with my surgery less than 2 weeks away, I cannot believe the 6 months passed so quickly!

I am very nervous, which I know is normal, but that still doesn't help.  Ha-Ha.  I am lucky because I have a great friend who is 5 years out from her lap band surgery and she has done fantastic.  She looks and feels fabulous.  She recommended I check out this site right away.  So here I am.

I am looking forward to any and all support I can get from those who have traveled the road before me.

I use the Optisource which you can get at Walgreen's or in the hospital pharmacy. Yeah I agree with you on Baritric's multi  it seemed a little strong.  Then I also use the Bariatric Advantage Calcium Citrate the Wild Cherry Flavored. At first they seem kind of strong but after a while they taste normal. I didn't like the chocolate one that we tried that night.  Also, I take a B12 sublingual that you can pick up in most pharmacies.  As for the iron not everybody has to take extra it just depends on how your body absorbs it. I had anemia issues and don't absorb it well do I do take two iron pills a day along with vitamine C.  To me I think buying all of those through Baratiric Advantage would be to expensive so I buy mine at Walmart or another pharmacy when I can find the sales. I agree that the B.A. iron was good but it only had a small amount of iron and I would have to have a lot of them throughout the day, which isn't good because you have to take them at least two hours away from your calcium pills.  So as you go through this process, you will see what will work best for you.

I liked the B.A. Iron and the calcium chews too, the multi had a nasty after taste that I would imagine being worse after surgery. I agree on the orange protein too, thought it was very good.
I got to do the EMMI today too, so things are moving along. Just waiting for the info packet I was told was coming with all the extra details for the appointments.
May I ask what multi vitamin you use?

In the class they will talk about several different products that you can use. From there you can see which would be best for you. The reason why they talked about the Bariatric Advantage products is because McLaren is now carrying them in the hospital pharmacy.

Some of the products I like and may go and get some. I always hate ordering new things offline because I never know if I am going to like them. It was great that they brought some of those products in for us to try. I tried some of the vitamins they they gave us and didn't like them. However, some of there products were pretty good. I really like that orange protein drink that she had that night. I have always used their Calcium Citrate.

Thanks for the info, after our last support group meeting I have a feeling they may recommend Bariatric Advantage products .
I don't do the dietician's class until the 16th so I guess I will wait and see.

The diet they put you on before hand is not prescribed. They tell you what to do and then you just go to the store and buy what you need.  They are pretty good about keeping their appointments. I never had any cancelled that I can recall.
