Hi I just started the journey. Just looking for support. I am debating the sleeve or lapband. At this time I am leaning more toward the sleeve. I have three kids 16 girl, 14 girl, 1 boy. I love my kids and just hoping to live a healthier life for them.

I also wanted to say that my sister had Dr. Genaw at Henry Ford Hospital and has been very happy with him.

I had my gastric bypass done at St. Mary Mercy Hospital in Livonia.  My surgery was done on June 12, 2012 and my surgeon was Dr. Jacob Roberts.  I have had no problems at all...no nausea, no vomiting, no pouch irritations, zip, zero , nada !  I have lost 85# since my first visit with them on Feb.27, 2012.  I have been off my diabetic medicine (3 of them, ugg)  since the day before my surgery.  So glad I went with them...

I went through Henry Ford Macomb, now closed. Dr. Genaw at Henry Ford Downtown has a great reputation. I also now some people who had the vertical sleeve done at Beaumont and have good result. Henry Ford does pretty good with follow up. I have been very successful. Sally Green, Rn now runs the Bariatric program at Henry Ford in Clinton Township. She is amazing!

I noticed that my post did finally get posted but I was having issues with my account so I deactivated it and then reactivated it.  So this was me.  I just wanted people to know that someone REALLY wants to know this answer still.

TIA

I was planning on going to MBI in Livonia and was talking to my PCP and she said she does not like them and gave reasons I had not heard about with them and then she said she prefers Henry Ford Hospital.  I am beginning to think that maybe she is just biased about HFH since she is leaving Trinity Health and going to HFH.  Both are centers for excellence and both look like the follow the patient after as well as has a good pre training program.

Anyone have any opinions???

TIA

I think being close would make a huge difference.  I considered getting the sleeve, but DVerseman said the RNY is better for post menopausal women.  Plus...being 55 I felt it  was better to go for the rny since I don't have a lot of time for more surgery later on. I know many people who have had both.  People with rny lose more than those with the sleeve, but the real work will begin 1 year post. Hopefully I will develop the good eating habits I need to become a long term success.

I had my band in December 2004 done at Spectrum Health in GR.  The practice split off and became their own unit about a year later.  I was one of the first people to get banded by them, they had a specialist fly in from Kentucky to walk the surgeon through it.  For fills and follow ups, it was a pain to drive up their, especially when things stopped working.  (It did work fine the first year and a half, I lost about 100lbs, but after that I had a few instances of intense heartburn and started going up for a fill, than an unfill, then a fill, and nothing worked the same).  Dr. Weaver told me my band probably slipped years ago and that's why I started gaining, which helped make feel like less of a failure.  I was disappointed with the follow-up care I got in GR. It was like once I got the surgery no one cared what happened to me. I am hoping for better closer to home.
