Hi There!
I am an old-timer here. Been on the board for over 8 years now. Got a lot of information on here to help me plan for my surgery.
My name is Shawn
I am 43 years old
I live in Pinckney
I have 6 kids (ages, 10, 11, 14, 15, 23 & 24)
I have 3 grand kids (ages 7, 3 & 9 months)
Had my RNY done on November 16, 2006 (just a week before Thanksgiving, wow, but I did it)
Surgery was done at Hurley in Flint by Dr. Jamal Farhan!
I honestly don't think I would be alive today had I not had my surgery.
Highest weight was around 312, lowest was 182, Gained some back (up to 220), now I am back down to 203! ONEderland here I come AGAIN!!!
I now have a membership at Planet Fitness in Brighton. If anyone else does we can maybe meet up and work out together.

Thank so much. You are right about where I was when I started my journey. You will do great. Take a look at my profile and my pics if you want to. It has been a roller coaster, but I do not regret for one minute of what I did. It was just a stepping stone to get my weight loss going. The journey is for the rest of my life. Almost 7 years later, I am proud of what I have accomplished and the disciplines I have acquired. Always remember that your pouch is just a tool to get you where you need to be. Be good to it, and treat it well and it will take care of you. Never stop eating right and taking good care of yourself.
Yes, I do have pizza sometimes, and I have my wine and soda when I want (poured in a glass though). Although with my wine I have to cut it 1/3 wine to 2/3 diet sprite so I can cut the sugar down. I rarely have a taste for sweets still, but when I do it is just a bite or two. Don't let yourself fall back into old habits. That is the worst thing you can do.
Can't wait to hear how your journey goes.... It is a whirlwind in the beginning. Best of Luck to you....

Hi all, Wendy from Grand Rapids. Just went to the info seminar today at Spectrum. DH and I are hoping to get the sleeve
Hi all. My name is Karen and live in Ann Arbor. Saw my surgeon yesterday, will be having my lap band removed, no date yet. Then he will do a new surgery (gotta find a way to get insurance to accept that one) for either Bypass or Sleeve. I had hoped for sleeve or DS but he doesn't do DS, and I don't think anyone does at U of M (Stacey, that is for you, you had asked me).
I think he is going to want Bypass, he voiced that one. Either way, I have decided I don't care which as long as I have one or the other to get this weight off! I will do whatever it takes. So happy he shares the opinion that the band is a failed method, that many had success with it but many more did not. Can't wait to get this thing out of me!
Welcome back and congrats on your recent weight loss! You'll be back in onederland soon. I'm just starting on the wls journey myself and love to read updates from people who are several years out.

Thanks so much! I guess I am just anxious to start my new life and freaked when I seen all this paper work. It does make sense thou, they wouldn't want us to fall on old habits or issues that would stand in our way. I will feel better once that part is over!
Don't sweat it too much. Mine just said they are looking for ways to help deal with any eating/food issues I might have to help me prepare for life with a sleeve. Your family history is not counted against you. If the other pros think you're a good candidate, I'm sure the psych. will say the same.

Hi there,
I have read several answers on OH about psych evals. But, I am still worried, just received large packet with several sheets, two different booklets. There are so many questions, not only about me, but about my family, immediate and distant. I know I have to be honest, but I don't want my siblings or parents issues to affect me getting my surgery. My pcp, nut and surgeon all feel as though I am a great candidate for surgery. The psych eval is my last hurdle, then they will arrange pre-op. My question is, am I worrying my self too much about it?
Thanks,
Leslie
