Topic: RE: Hurley Medical Center Dr. Farhan
Hi! Dr. Farhan was not my surgeon, I have heard no complaints from those who have had him. I had Dr. Kralovich....but as far as the appointment taking so many hours. I found that it did not take that long. For both of my surgeries (lapband May 2008 and RNY revision June 2010) the appointment really only took a couple hours. Not to say it may be longer. Depends on the order you arrive and how many questions are asked. I recommend arriving a bit early.
Hurley is a great place willing to work with you at any stage of this journey. Keeping in contact with them is important also.
Good luck to you!

Good morning!
Dr. Farhan did my surgery. He's a very good surgeon. I've only met him once for a "meet and greet" for about 15 minutes. I don't remember seeing him in the hospital before or after my surgery (although he might have checked in on me after, but I could have been zonked out). He seems like a nice enough man and I fully trusted him to do a great job with my innards. The guy knows how to cut!
What I love about Hurley is that they have a full team of experts on staff and each expert deals with you based on their own area of knowledge. So that 5-6 hour appointment will not just be with the surgeon (you'll probably meet him briefly and he'll go over your chart and discuss the surgery) ... you'll be seeing the nutritionist and nurses and PA's to discuss all the areas of your surgery. I know they have a "nursing and nutrition" class that you'll go through which will teach you about the vitamins you need and the stages of eating post-op. Not sure if that's covered in this appointment, but you'll get that before surgery sometime.
The medical examination will come after you're scheduled for surgery and will happen during the pre-admission testing. You'll meet with Dr. Minasian and he'll go over all the details of your medical history, do lab work, xrays, and a bunch of other tests (that appointment takes a few hours).
Good luck!
Pam
