I only spent one night in the hospital, and the only thing I took was my loose fitting clothes to wear home the next day.  The one thing I wish I would have brought though is chap stick, my mouth/lips were very dry afterwards.

I have surgery on Tuesday and will be there til Thursday.  I am having an open Gastric Bypass.  I am starting to think about things I want to have with me and am looking for suggestions from those who have been there.   Any suggestions?

thanks

Thanks for the feedback.   I appreciate it.  I have borrowed my mom's treadmill so I can do my walking every day in recovery.   I do have a recliner and that is a great idea.

5 days and counting!

My surgery started out lap and ended up open. My incision was about 6 inches long.  I used very little pain medicine in the hospital and none at home.  I was walking 4 miles within 3 days of coming home. I scheduled 6 weeks off of work but only took 4.  I think it all depends on you. Make sure you wear your girdle. That will help the weight from pulling to much.    It keeps it nice and snug. Every person is different. I had abdominal surgeries before so I kind of knew what was coming. If you have a recliner chair to sleep in for a few days that would be great. Go at your own pace, don't compair yourself to anyone else. Good Luck.

This is a little late, but thought I'd chime in.  I had my sleeve 5/4/10 at Borgess in Kalamazoo by Dr Verseman.  Not much pain, like previous poster, my c-section was much more painful.  I did use meds as I had some back pain issues, prior to surgery, and the laying down for just the 2 days was not helpful.  I did have a cath and drain, cath was removed after recovery and drain was removed the next day.  I was off work for 4 weeks, I took the time, to get the schedule down, and some extra rest, probably could have went back to work after 2 wks.  I did go to a couple support group meetings at Borgess, but I was the only sleever there and didn't find it very helpful.  I tried to ask questions, but it was pretty much a "gab session" for those who went regularly.  I may go back again, if I find someplace for VSG'ers, the programs are so different!  I have a co-worker who had RNY,and we talked frequently before I had my surgery, but we've found things are very different.  Good Luck!

Thank you for all your wonderful thoughts.  I appreciate having the support.

A couple of people have said it sounds like I am feeling down and I just wanted you to know... I'm not.  I guess I have a dry sense of humor but I am actually smiling as I was writing the review.

Tomorrow, I am going to try a Zumba Gold class at the Roseville Recreation Center.  I don't know if I can do it, but it sounds like fun.

Incidentally, I have apparently forgotten the pin number for my ticker tape so I have been unable to update it for a while.
