Hi Jody
I live in Kalamazoo (southwest MI) but you probably know where it is. I am going to Bronson Methodist Hospital, Dr Kibwe Weaver. Bronson HealthCare Midwest Bariatric & Metabolic Surgery.
I know I am going to wait for Dr Weaver to recover. I know they only have one surgeon at Bronson now, that does this type of surgery, and could add more if they had a demand for it I suppose. I really liked Dr Weaver medically speaking. He spoke clear and told me I should have RNY and why, he had read my lengthy medical folder. I am going to ask about DS. He did not try to talk me into it but answered all the questions I had on my pad and I felt I could make a good decision. He also suggested OH.com I thought about the insurance to. thanks for the tip
Borgess Hospital in Kalamazoo also has a Bariatric Center. I was told both hospitals offer support groups and many people go to both. I plan to go to both, but at the moment I have only gone to Bronson support groups and they were ok. People were talking and very informative.
Were you looking for a Bariatric center? Best of luck and feel free to keep in touch, I check here often. What happened to this site years ago?

Hey there! This board used to be VERY active about 4-6 years ago, but there was a big upheaval with a lot of stuff on OH and a lot of folks left.
I'm in the Brighton area, but had my surgery in Northern VA. I'll be 6 years out in October. I had the RNY. Now, something Dr's don't tell you, is it is VERY common for RNY'ers to develop Reactive Hypoglycemia, which I did. I didn't have diabetes prior to surgery either. But, I've thought it was horrible this happened to me, but to be honest, it keeps me honest and keeps a lot of sugar and simple carbs out of my body. I've gained 15 lbs from my goal and am working on getting 10 of that back off. Do a Google search on it so you can see what new studies are coming out about it. I also know folks who have the Sleeve who were very successful. If I were to do it again, I'd either get the Sleeve or DS - as you keep your pyloric valve and don't develop issues that RNY'ers do. Now, with DS, not all insurances cover it and not that many Dr's do it, but it is very malabsorptive and has the HIGHEST success rating in KEEPING the weight off. I know several very successful DS'ers who are 7-10 years out. But, along with that, goes a very strict vitamin regimine - for life. Do your research and see which surgery would be best for you. There's a website called WWW.DSFACTS.COM. You may want to read it just for info. You can never know too much!
Good luck with your journey! I get on OH a couple of times a day for other forums, but if folks are going to revive this one, I'll check in here then too.

wow - glad he was ok! What Doctor/office are you getting your surgery done through? You're right in keeping your options open, but it probably will take less time to wait until August than to go through another office and perhaps they'll have different rules/qualifications, even if your insurance transfers.
Good luck!

Hi just a quick update if anyone reads this site. I was suppose to see my Doctor the beginning of June, to set my surgery date . I got a phone call to change my appt to August 14th. My Doctor was in a car accident, he will be ok but needed several weeks off (10). He is the only one in the practice that does surgery. I am sorry for his misfortune and am glad he is not hurt to badly. I am disappointed because I am ready for the surgery asap. I know it will all work out the way it is suppose to.
Thanks for listening, I am being patient as well as asking about other Bariatric Clinics. I believe they have 2 in Kalamazoo one at each hospital. Keeping my options open.

Your guess is as good as mine. Sent me home after they dopped me up. It was so painful.
I went to the ER of a hospital that I am not fond of.
Hello there - I am from Lake Orion. I have a surgery date of 8/8 I am having the RNY. I suffer from pre-diabetes, apnea, high blood pressure and reflux. I am just looking to communicate with others that are pre- and post-op. My bmi is 52.

I posted before about all the tummy issues I was having of late.
I went to the Gastro doc and she told me I most likely have a narrowing of the JJ anastamosis...so, I will be getting an upper GI and fingers crossed I will be able to get this fixed!
Thank you all for your support...
