Hi everyone, I was so supprized I got an answer. I feel the support :)
Just went to the Dieticion. Dr Weaver gives specific pre- op protein drinks, tells you how many a day to mix with skim milk. Slim fast, carnation instant breakfast sugar free, unjury, glucose controlled "Boost". You can not mix slim fast for breakfast meal and unjury for lunch in the same day. You can drink unjury all day (amount approved), or slim fast all day long (amt approved). You can also have water, crystal light, decaf tea, sugar free gelatin, clear broth and sugar free popsicles in addition to the 800 calories in full liquids. Up to 64 oz each day. Recommended 60 grams of protein daily. To use any other protein product you need to clear it with the Dieticion. After surgery they will give you samples, maybe coupons for protein drinks and then you can use other brand protein drinks.
Most people have a 2 week pre-op liquid diet, he asked me to do 3 weeks. Scares me, I keep telling myself "You can do it, the surgery will save your life", its all about change and getting healthy.
I do like Dr Weaver he seems very smart, self assured, not arrogant, and so it appears good health again (good for us). He has assured me I will make it through the surgery he has done well over 5000 RNY. Still makes me nervous going under:(
I am glad you are all having positive experiences where you at in the process.
I also live in Portage. I think I have answered the questions. I start the liquid diet Monday, September 15th. eeek gritting teeth
I do hope to follow Donna's lead and have an unremarkable surgery and recovery. When do the rest of you have surgery and what kind?
Keep in touch and best of luck
I'm sorry I haven't responded sooner. I just saw this message. I'm in the metro-Detroit area.
I'm liking my sleeve so far. As long as I follow the rules (eat slowly, small bites, etc), it doesn't give me any trouble. I have one more week of soft foods and then I'm into the real foods! Thankfully my recovery was unremarkable. I can say that the week-3 stall that everyone talks about really stinks. lol The scale finally moved this morning after 2.5 weeks of bouncing around the same 2 lbs. I'm in a new 'decade' finally! The best part is all the comments. People are noticing my weight loss now.
How are you doing? Just 4 more weeks for you!

For the 135 pounds, it will be tough to get down to it and maintain. I plan on walking, swimming, or biking every day.

I am also curious about the liquid diet options. Please let us know what you have used, and what helped you along the way.
Wow nice to see other Kalamazoo people on here! I am in Portage. I'll be having my surgery with Dr. Verseman at Borgess (eventually). I have a few more months of the required pre-op stuff first.
I am so excited for you that you have a surgery date set!

I am having the same surgery done hopefully in October or before the end of this year. I am excited, but I am getting nervous as well. Dr. Weaver seems great.
Hi Bubbles, I was wondering what was acceptable for the 2 week liquid diet and it looks like you have protein shakes listed here. Any particular kind? I don't have my date yet but I am trying to get my ducks in a row now so when the doctor calls I will be ready!
Donna
How are you doing since your surgery? How does the loser's bench feel? Could you refresh my memory, where are you in MI, I'm in Kalamazoo.
Hope everything is ok with your new pouch and your recovery is unremarkable (as they write in our chart).
How are you liking wls.
