My friend just got her level 1 denial letter from HAP today. The next step is a level 2 appeal, with the opportunity to attend an in person appeal. I sent my appeal just two days after my friend, so Im guessing my denial letter will show up tomorrow or Monday as well. Seeing her get denied just doesn't leave me with a positive feeling about my own appeal at this point and it seems HAP is notorious for denying right up to the bitter end. If you have done the level 2/in person, do you have any suggestions for securing at least an approval pending psych eval? My other question is, has anyone not been given approval at least pending psych eval from the level 2 appeal?

I don't know if this will help you. I have not dealt with insurance yet. I had to do the psych eval twice. I didn't do well on the first test, and had to see a psych for a few months then try again on the psych eval. Oh, it is best to go in with all your information also get as many Dr. letters as possible. That support you having wls and also show that you are excersing and trying to lose weight. If you have seen any nutrietionist get their recommendation. Anything that you can to get approval. (it seems like every thing that I have done has been a fight) Don't give up, Keep fighting! Good Luck! Take Care, God Bless! Love, Sherie

don't worry colleen, it took me a year to get approval from blue care network...they were also known for only approving through the in person appeal. Just make sure to go there, don't do it over the phone...it makes a world of difference. They need to see you and how you struggle. they gave me fifteen minutes (i was in front of a panel of 6, one was the doctor who kept denying me). During that fifteen minutes i told them the truth, they seen how sad i was, how i was hurting my family, and how i couldn't function like a normal person. I also let them know how damaging my bp and comorbidities was. I have it saved to my computer, so if you want to read it and get an idea, just email me and i'll send it to you. They are wanting you to give up, you just have to keep on fighting. Hugs Linda
