Really scary afternoon/evening

Oh wow....this has been a horrifying afternoon and late evening. Beginning at around 6pm, I started barfing everything and anything I put into my mouth. Water, tea, jello, you name it, it came up. At one point, I was throwing up so hard, that I felt like I popped something in my head. I had this intense shooting pain in the area just above my right eye like someone had taken a sharp pointed object and rammed it into my forehead. I recall my surgeon telling me time and time again "this will pass" and to let it take it's time to either come up or go out the other end. Obviously, nothing was going south. I spent the latter part of 3 hours barfing, trying to eat or drink anything to see if maybe I had another blockage. (this happened in October 2005 when I ate a piece of chicken too fast and it got lodged in my stoma and I was eventually admitted into the hospital, underwent and endoscope and spent 4 days inpatient until it passed). I was putting a bag together to possibly be prepared to go to the Emergency Room (which I dread 100 percent) but the agony was getting so bad I was just about to walk out the door and felt an overwhelming bit of comfort take over. I had even begun to feel like I could finally hold down something so I starting eating ice chips to keep me hydrated and mixed some in a blender with protein powder that I despise but knew that I needed some and mixed it with Crystal Light. I'm now able to sip on liquids and am sipping cool tea and crystal light so that I get myself re-hydrated. I also have a couple sugar free popsicles in the freezer that I am working on and that is staying down. I have to say, I got really scared more about the pain in my head from throwing up so hard, and wonder if I broke a blood vessel and if I do need to seek some medical attention. The pain on a scale of 1-10 (1 being low, 10 being high) is about down to a 3 now, as opposed to a 10 earlier. I know my surgeon would tell me to let it ride 24 hours before I go in to the ER or try to make an appointment with him, as this has happened in the past, and like he says, it will pass. I've thrown up everything possible I have ingested today up until about an hour ago....I ate some jello and it stayed down and I don't feel that nasty gagging and belching issue I feel when I think something is lodged in there. I'm just thankful whatever it was that came over me just as I was about to walk out the door to go to the ER .....I despise that hospital and didn't want to go so I'm just thankful now I'm resting and I don't have to work tomorrow ....so I can just take it easy. Have any of you ever had such a problem throwing up you feel like you have blown something in your head and get concerned and what would you do if you were me? Thanks for the replies...I'm feeling much better now....tolerating watered down juice and even some chicken broth. Just liquids tonight...and some jello. (yummmmmmmy)

WOW... Stacey.. I am glad your feeling better... But I will tell you that I know exactly what you were going thru. It sounds like your had one of the WORST MIGRAINES some of us life-long migraine suffers have about once or so a year. I have had migraines since I was 12y, now 38y. I have been battling them a majority of my life and probably will untill they can find a safe CURE.. (not holding breath). The last 2 months I have had what we call 'clusters', which means I am just having mini-migraines or BAD headaches.. Which 9 out of 10 times result into "THE BIG ONE" (Redd Fox's line) happening soon. And YES, I do PRAY EVERYDAY that what you experienced happens SOON and the release of the mini/cluster will go away. My advice next time, dont eat, let yourself throw-up all you need to, it does release pressure. Absolute silence & darkness, Ice-pack on back of neck & forehead, buried under a pile of warm blankets. I am glad it wasnt another stricture, I have never had one, but I do know that getting something caught isnt fun either. Take it easy for the next 24 hours. Paige 385-262
