Even the strongest of marriages.....

cannot always survive the changes that WLS brings. Two people are together when they are obese and not real happy about themselves. They are tired of being alone and feel grateful that someone in the world can love them for who they are. They cling to this like a life raft and it is the glue that holds them together for many years. Then one day, WLS surgery comes along and changes them forever. Never in a million years did they think it could harm their marriage. The thought was that it could only make their lives better and more fulfilled. The honeymoon of the weight loss sustains them for a couple years more. Then, one day, they wake up and realize that they are different people than when they met. That glue is no longer there holding things together. They find they are less tolerant of the shortcomings that once were overlooked. They begin to question the reason they were ever together in the first place. They have to find new reasons now and, that task is not so easy. The blinders made of desperation are lifted and the real people stand there now wondering where the hell they are. They wonder how they ever ended up in this place, and decide a trial separation is what is needed. It sucks and it is the saddest thing ever. People need to be very clear WHY they are with the people they choose. Being together out of loneliness is not a good reason and will not sustain. The real people will ALWAYS come through now matter how you try to cover up or hide behind a facade. People never really change at their core no matter how hard they try. Anyway, that is my 2 cents and it probably makes no sense at all. I am going to bed now.
