Is this normal?
Hi! I am new to all this, just waiting for my final dc appt before going for approval. Just wondering if anyone out there has experienced this. I am dying to get things moving--that I believe is normal. But this waiting has caused me to eat more! Isn't that nuts? I mean, I can't wait to loose anad here I am eating the worst possible choices. What is up with this?
HI Mari! I had Dr. Baker a year ago for my surgery. He's a sweetheart! No, you aren't abnormal, but let's face it, if we had control over our eating prior to surgery, we wouldn't need this added tool to help us get the weight off. It is good that you are thinking about what you are doing. The next step is to do something about those feelings other than eat! Okay, here's a suggestion: Go out for a walk, the weather is beautiful and the exercise is great for getting your body ready for surgery and recovery! Or, start doing something with your hands that makes it impossible to eat, knitting, crafts, something like that. The other thing would be to journal how you are feeling, get it down on paper and know what the triggers are for when you get that 'gotta have somethin' " feeling! The final thing I keep telling everyone is: get off the sugar and caffiene RIGHT NOW! You will not want to be going through that withdrawal when your two week supplements begin before surgery. What with the headaches that occur when you are getting coffee alone, it makes it worse if you wait. Also, getting off the sugar will help stop those cravings since sugar begets wanting more sugar, so to speak!
So those are my suggestions! I am wishing you the very best during this waiting period. You can make some changes right now that will help you, so try to do that! I will be keeping you in my thoughts and prayers for when you finally have surgery, too. If you need an Angel to let the board know how you are doing, I would be glad to do that. I will call you in the hospital and check on you and then let everyone know here. You're gonna do JUST FINE! Love, Pam Rhodes
Mari,
Until I began my preop liquid diet on Monday I was a total eating machine! Ididnt do it conciously, but even my husband was wondering why I was eating so much. I think its just nervousness that caused me to munch, munch munch...but I am so happy that now I am only focusing on seriously beginning this life - Im only in my 4th day of one small meal with no bad carbs allowed and protein shakes the rest of the day, and 11 days til surgery but I feel lighter and happier and ready to make this change.
Hang in there!
Kathryn
Wow, your post makes me remember like it was yesterday! Yes, I say it is normal. Most of us are, or were, stress eaters. Waiting for that approval was one of the MOST stressful times of my life. Everything in my life was put on hold until I had a yes or no. I gained 5 pounds before my surgery. Just try and relax, it's all in Gods hands anyway. Best of luck to you. Try eating apples in peanut butter or carrots in ranch.

Totally normal!!! (arent you glad we told you that!!!) I have a co-worker who is a basket case right now because she is sweating the approval process. I tried to tell her today that some people wait months if not years for this surgery and that she needs to take a chill pill and develop a little patience. Hard to do, sure, will it make life alot easier, you betcha!!!
Just know what you are going through is normal, bu****ch what you eat, you don't want the surgery to be postponed because of weight gain. Some doctors will cancel if you gain due to the fact that fat tends to collect around the liver and they need you to lose that type of body fat before they do surgery. Just remember, NOTHING TASTES AS GOOD AS BEING THIN!!!!. That has been my mantra ever since I woke up and went on a "new lifestyle plan" some 6 months prior to my "surgical day"
Best of luck to you,
Jill
