Protein meals and snacks

 Hi everyone,
I just thought maybe we could share some meal and snack idea's with each other. I am finding that I pretty much eat the same few meals all the time. I try and tell myself it isn't much different then before surgery but now they are protein meals instead of fast food meals. But I am afraid if I do not add some different options at some point I will get tired of the same old meals and "cheat". So I thought maybe if we all shared meal idea's as well as snack options maybe that would help.
Some of the meals I eat are chili made with lean burger, chicken wraps with whole wheat tortilla, lean burgers (no buns) cooked on George Foreman grill, and tuna fish with light miracle whip (also not on a sandwich). Some snacks that I like are soy chips found at either Kroger or Meijer, Special K chips, soy nuts, beef jerky (either home made or store bought), cottage cheese with pinapple in it, and fruit. I do know that I have to begin to add more vegetables to my meals because eating so much protein and little of anything else can become pretty 'binding' I hope we are able to share some idea's with each other.

Thanks for the sites! I dont think I have beenn to any of those. I will have to check them out. I want to work on meals we can eat as a family. So far it has been that I make a meal for myself and then I make a meal for the rest of the family. Not the way I want to keep doing things thats for sure!

do you have kids you want to cook for?  i know its hard to do that.  but sometimes you have to do chicken legs and stuff with maybe a light coating of shake n bake, and make baked beans, just the plain ones, i think pork and beans is what they are called on the can, maybe add some bacon to it and some s/f maple syrup.  that way you get some carbs for the kids but protein for you.

also, my fav is pizza night.  use tortilla shells, precook them so they get a bit toasty. then use pizza quick sauce and cheese and fixins and let the kids make their own, put them in the broiler to melt the stuff together.  they should like that.

soft tacos are good.  they do make low carb tortilla shells iffin you want them.  i hate them personally.  i would serve refried beans loaded with cheddar cheese melted on top too!  AND BACON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This week I have finally started to cook and put things in the freezer and have things ready in the frig.

1 1/2 pounds of chicken breast cooked in crock pot on high for 3 hours with vegetable broth and Mrs. Dash seasoning. Made 10 - 1 1/2 oz baggies of chicken to freeze and put in frig. 75 calories/ 12 protein

1 pound turkey bacon baked in the oven on cookie sheet, even did a double layer, turned out great. 2 pieces in each snack baggie, froze some and some in frig. Great snack. 50 Calories / 4 Protein

9 2oz beef patties fried up (using water and extra lean beef) and in freezer/frig 95 Calories / 14 Protein

Love Greek Yogurt, cheese sticks, Protein Chips (buy at Grand Health Partners in GR), Hummus and carrot sticks, pea pods and ranch dip (come in snack packs in produce section) ate my first egg salad yesterday, one egg, 1 Tbs Miracle whip, it was okay, but not as good as I remember.

I do like omelettes with ham and cheese. Tonight we are having a roast with carrots and mushrooms. But I love the pizza idea! That is the one food that I do really miss and craze still. I find that the less carbs I eat, the less I craze sugar. But pizza cravings have never gone away for some reason. I did think about using the low fat cresent rolls as dough, but have to look for the low carb. tortilla shells and see what I think of them. Before I got laid off, chili was the main meal I would cook up in a large pot on Sunday's and freeze up for lunch's at work. It was easy and convient to just pop them in the microwave.

 Hi everyone,
Have you tried chicken salad? Use canned chicken, granny smith apples, and cut up grapes with low fat mayo.  I eat it more as a 'dip' using wheat thins. My whole family enjoys it and it goes well at any pot luck dinners we go to as well. Just another option for you.

Hi Everyone:

I had surgery a few weeks ago Nov 12 and I'm in stage 4 now (but I found a great Grocery store that has really  fine graded Chicken Salad and Tuna Salad.   It stays down just fine.   I also found I can get a SOFT taco   WITHOUT RED SAUCE from Taco Bell and Refried Pinto Beans WITHOUT RED SAUCE and both go down well although  you can't eat all of the two together it is too much food.  Haven't tried Chili yet...that is Monday coming up.  I found I cannot eat a normal restaurants yet and BEEF ROAST doesn't do well with me yet.   So good luck -
