N Surgery.

Well I was supposed to have my Surgery today but now it is not going to happen. The hospital called on Friday and told me that they would not let the surgion work on me even tho he was willing to simply because I am HIV+. I dont know if I am more sad about doing all the work and then the last min told no. Or if I am mad that this kind of discrimintation can still go on in 2012.
Is it the dr or the hospital? Can you call around to see if another dr will do the surgery? I wonder if that is something for the AFLCIO to be notified about. Do you belong to a support group that can help you with these kinds of questions?

Thanks for replying to my post Boxermom. The Dr was all for doing the surgery. The hospital is the one that would not allow him to do it. The Dr. has arranged for me to have my surgery at another hospital he has privleges at on May 9th. The Department of Justice is now going to go after the Hospital for Violation of state and Federal laws. I guess things will work out ok now.
I am sorry to hear that this type of discrimination is still going on in 2012 also. I am glad to see your latest post that you will be able to get your surgery done on May 9th. Your surgeon sounds like he or she is a very good and compassionate human being.
I do hope that this hospital gets more than just a slap on the wrist! Seriously, would they deny a patient if they arrived at their hospital in an emergency situation? I just don't get where they are coming from or trying to go with this decision.
Please know that discrimination is not and should not be tolerated...I am angry about this situation.
Take care and keep us posted!
