gastric plication

 I am looking for anyone else in Michigan who may have also had gastric plication wls. I had my surgery on Oct. 18th by Dr. Gluck in Muskegon.  I would like to find out how they are doing and share my experience so far with them.

 I have nothing but great things to say about Dr. Gluck and his team. The only negative so far with 'them' would be the distance ( I am in the Port Huron area). Dr. Gluck keeps each of his patients on the same program no matter which surgery you have. Two weeks prior to surgery you are on a liquid diet, followed by 3 weeks on liquids after surgery. Then you begin a 5 week soft food phase. I am currently on the last week of that phase. I orignally had about 80 pounds to lose so not as much as most. I have to this date lost 31 pounds. When I hear it that way I feel pretty good about it, but actually since starting the soft food phase I have only lost on average 1 pound per every 2 weeks. To me that seems crazy low!! Even Dr.Gluck was surprised at how slow I am losing :-(  He says it may be due to the fact I have so little to lose and suggested I up my work out routine and increase the protein intake. Both of which I did 2 weeks ago and so far no difference. I speak with my NUT this Thursday and am hoping she may have some suggestions on what to do to increase the rate of losing. The surgery itself was very easy, little to no pain, never took a pain medicine and was doing laps in the halls of surgery no problem at all soon as I woke up. The cost of the surgery COMPLETE was $7,000 since insurance does not cover the surgery at this time. I am doing very well after my surgery! I have lost 80 pounds! I dont need to lose any more and actually am about 20 lower than what Dr. Gluck figured I would end up being at :) I dont have any issues from the surgery. At the first few weeks I did have problems with my blood sugar dropping from not eating much. But it stablized after a while and has not been a problem since. I do have constipation troubles some due to eating so much protein but from visiting this site seems that comes with all the surgeries. Good luck with your appointment and keep me posted! I stumbled across your post and wanted to see how you were doing. I just got the plication surgery a week ago and it was nice to read a familiar city! I live on the south side of GR

I was very surprised to see this activity on this forum. I sadly rarely come to this site anymore due to such a low amount of activity. So I NEVER hear of others who have had or are getting gastric plication surgery. I wonder often why not? I do not understand why this procedure is not more well known. I have had such great success with it with NO complications. Although, I will say at this point I do find myself needing to get back on track with my eating habits. But that is due to my own personal choices and nothing to do with the surgery at all. It is nice to see others are still getting this procedure and I hope it goes as well for each of you as it has me!
