Anyone Else Feel This Way?

Did anyone have a problem dealing with groups of people post surgery?  I'm finding with a couple of close friends (one on one) I"m find, but whent it comes to larger groups or crowds I basically border a panic attack and freak out.

Now the "thought" sends me off the edge.

My family support has also vanished, I'm wondering if the two are related.

Anyways, I'd really appreciate some input.  This doesn't last does it??

Thanks.

OMG TRACI!!  YES!  It seems like the surgery exacerbated my 'anxiety' levels.  I hated to be in social settings.  It was difficult to motivate myself to attend events/parties.  But I did.  Isolating ones self leads to depression.  So make sure that you force yourself to go, even if you don't chit chat a lot with people.  And yes, I seemed highly agitated by most everyone, especially my immediate family [husband and kids].

Just try to hang in there.  Once you get more comfortable in your new skin, this will subside.

best wishes,

Remember PMS?  Irrational thoughts, emotional spins?

Your fat cells are also storing estrogen, which is dumping into your system at an astonishing rate as the fat flushes out.

Remember when wls people said hang on for the ride?  Here is the roller-coaster part of it.  This too will pass, you will have to develop skills to cope until it clears.

As to family support, I suggest that you work on getting along without it.  They were used to you the way you were, and change is scary for them.  And unless you have family members who have had wls, they can't understand what you are going through.

Good luck on this journey, and good luck stepping out on your own!

This may be because you may not be comfortable with the new and thinner you.
and a second thought is that you know those whol know you had surgery will be eyeballing you to see how successful you have become. And those wheo know you before but didnt  know about the WLS will as how you achieved such as feets.

the response could be that you are eating better and watching what you eat and exercising more. and to those who think you should be a twig by now  just respond tha roam was not built in a day.

I was like this before and after surgery.  I am actually slightly worse now though.  I think because I am 4-1/2 years out now, I feel as if I am under a microscope if my weight goes up slightly I am worried that others will think as if I have failed and that the surgery doesn't work at all.  I just recently went on medication for my anxieties over this and so far it is not helping, but I am on a very very low dose and I see my doctor next week.  I think I am beg her to up my dosage.  We will see.  I hope this does not continue for you.  I wish you much luck, but if you continue to deal with it I would strongly suggest seeking a psych doctor or something like that, even your PCP may be able to help you out.
