Ouch

Hi. This past Tuesday I had my surgery. I was released Thursday. I think overall I'm doing ok. I was totally unprepared for the morphine migraine. Pain control immediately following the procedure was really tough. I can't do the liquid vitamins. I instantly want to throw up...its like miracle grow. Broth, creamy soups, farina, yogurts, s/f puddings, protein drinks...all are going down ok. The gas is irritating and so is the constipation from the pain meds. That sucks because I was hoping not to have to take it as often as I have. My most painful area is directly under my right breast, its super painful when bending or getting around the bed. Tonight I have a larger pillow under that spot, those have helped. I ambulate fine. I'm itching for cooked Veggies, I know...coming soon. I'm not sure if I like milk anymore mostly cook with it. I have lactaid, but understand if I'm not hopping to give it a try in light of gassy issues.

I'm not complaining. Much of this I expected from what I learned on the boards and extensive talks with the doctors. It's different. I have two questions: how long will he stomach discomfort from the surgery last, and has anyone else experienced problems sleeping after? It's after 3:30am and I'm still awake.

Thanks for reading!

I think sleeping was a little messed up for me for the first two weeks.  When I started sleeping in my bed again (after a couple days) I would wake up and was sick of sleeping on my back, so I would get up and sleep in the recliner.  When I started sleeping on my side again I used a body pillow either under my stomach, or behind my back to help brace me.

Congrats on your surgery and welcome to the losers bench.

My suggestion for the gas is to SIP! SIP! plenty of water, and walk, walk , walk. Since the weather is nice...walk to the mailbox and back...moving seems to help all that stuff move around and out....

I think it may have been the creamer my friend had in her fridge.  I didn't read the back before I poured.  That's the only item I had that I didn't look at.

I have been walking, except for yesterday.  I felt like poop.  Today is much better.  I drove to my doctor's office, then went to the mall.  I had to get my medic alert necklace altered (mom insisted I have one, but the chain was shorter than I liked...the mall kiosk person made a second one and it's pretty sweet), then I drove back to downtown Royal Oak.  I meter parked and walked over to the hair salon and made a hair & nail play date.  Then I walked over to Goldfish Tea (this place ROCKS), first time I had ever been there, and I picked up some stuff.

A few hours and seventy-five bucks later, I'm back home.  I just missed the downpour.

Feeling good today.  If it's not raining, I might grab my landlord and go around the block.

Bariatric Advantage sells a chewable fitamin for us. or Bariatric choice. they are ok to taste if you suck on them like a couphdrop but dont try to chew them then they taste like chalk.

So congratulations on your surgery. Yeah, the gas is interesting to say the least. LOL
I had that Morphine headache too, except mine was from Dilaudid... Man that was a doozy.

I was miserable in the hospital, and nauseated when I came home, but I'm 3 weeks out (on the 26th) and I feel great.

Good luck and I hope you a speedy recovery.♥
