Good Morning everyone =)  I hope everyone is having a wonderful Monday.  I am just curious how long it took after they received blood test results did it take for your scheduler to contact the insurance company and then call you with a surgery date?  I am so anxious it is killing me =)

Hello,

I have Aetna.  All three of my kids also have had surgery this past year.    For me, I started the process in September 2008 and my surgery was March 2009.

My daughter started the process in November 2009 and had surgery May 2010.  My two sons started the process in June 2010 and had surgery in December 2010.

Do you have to complete a 6 month physician supervised diet as part of your requirements for approval?    ONce insurance approved, the process went very fast...surgery within 4-5 weeks from the time of approval.

Hope that helps.

I went to the seminar on March 15 and had surgery on May 14. Course I scheduled all of my appts on the same day so didn't have to waite weeks between seeing the surgeon, phych eval and PCP Dr in their office. Only had to go back once for a visit w/ a nutritionist based on my insurances requirement (Empire Blue Cross of NY even though I lived in MI) Once the office submitted the paperwork my insurance had a nurse advocate call and let me know I was approved 3 days later & Dr. office scheduled me w/in a couple of weeks.

Not too sure how your plan works, but I have BC/BS of MI, and they do not pre-approve surgaries. (this is in my case) I went to the seminar Jan 9, 2010 and had my surgery on May 4, 2010, however, I was on the cancellation list for every appointment (the dr had a cancellation and I got a call, to be there) It works if you are flexible. Probably because the surgeon is so busy, but my original consultation appt wasn't scheduled until May 28, 2010, I ended up having my surgery almost 3 weeks before that Like I said, this was just my situation. Another co-worker started with her seminar in July of 2009 and had surgery in December 2009. Hope this helps

It is VERY VERY different for each practice and insurance company. Some places only do a few surgeries per month and others do many per day. Some insurance companies do not require pre approval and others do.  Just hang in there! MOST peoples journeys are pretty fast! :)
