I am currently waiting for someone to contact me to schedule my surgery date.  I origionally had my heart set on RNY but them my surgeon explained the VSG to me and now I am soo confused.  How did you all make your choice?

I chose the VSG, and am very happy with my choice.  For me, I was just too fearful of having my intestines rerouted and the malabsorption.  Just do alot of research and decide which surgery would suit you the best.  Remember you cannot take NSAIDS after RNY also.  That wasn't a big deal in my decision making, but I know it is for some.

Good Luck on making a choice!

My VSG is scheduled for May 23.  This was the best option for me because I was really nervous about the malabsorption stuff.  But just because this choice was best for me doesn't mean it is best for you!  I have family membersand friends who have had different procedures, pushing me to make the same choice they did.  But I looked at everything, and the VSG was--and still is--the option I am most comfortable with.  This is what I feel has the best chance of working for me.

Good luck choosing the best option for your life and your weight loss goals.

How are you doing? I'm about to have my VSG consultation (after having a LapBand consult and changing my mind). Just checking in....thanks, Sheryl

If I were doing a revision, I would do the VSG.  It is less invasive and less traumatic, and seems to have good success without the malnutrition issues that come with RNY.

You could ask your question on the main board, but would probably start a surgery war.

Hey look at that another Grand Health Partners patient!  The issue to me came down to the malabsorbtion aspect of the RNY.  I did not feel comfortable with that nor did I like that the remander of the stomach was left in place.  The sleeve made the most logical sense to me and has a rate of success that is very good.  I would, and have, recommended the sleeve to friends and family members.

I chose DS due to my higher BMI of 52.

After having read WAY TOO MANY studies the facts were in my favor to chose the DS>

I also have arthritis in my knees and my back and did not want to be limited with NSAIDS or time released meds later in life..

VSG also allows you to take NSAIDS...
I struggled with choosing between the VSG and the DS...
