Hello Michigan!!

Hi everyone!

My name is Sheree.  I had Roux-en-y 6 years ago in Minnesota.  My husband, kids and I moved to Michigan after the economy took a turn in our household and my husband lost his job.  We now live in the Thumb of Michigan where I grew up.

I can't say this experience with gastric bypass was good for me. You see, I learned early on that I could get around what was done to my pouch and eat what I wanted, to a point.  I dumped on sugar, no doubt there but found ways to make it work.  I didn't have a huge support system and was let go from the doctors early on.  I went back later on asking for help.  I knew I was broken in my head and now was breaking my pouch.  The doc said I needed to figure out how to diet cause that was my only option.  I walked out of there and felt like I failed.

Fast forward to now..  I started having issues in January health wise and found out last month I need to have my gallbladder out.  My doctors office felt best I go to a gastric bypass doc, which I did.  I went to Dr Kia in Flint.  He will be taking out my gallbladder on the 13th.  It was.. hard.. to go in there honestly.  The waiting room was full of potentials and I failed it...  I didn't say anything cause I didn't know Dr Kia's system.  He was very open to helping me.  He said that they don't let go of patients.. they follow through.   He said a few months after my surgery he will start looking at the structure of the pouch and what can be done to help.  I felt encouraged.

Anyways.. I just wanted to say hi... I am going to try support groups, and thought I would start here.

Have a good Friday all!

Welcome, let me just tell you that you are in good hands with Dr. Kia. My first time meeting him I pretty much told him that I didn't like doctors and he totally understood that. I had surgery with him in 09 and between him and the people in his office they will take good care of you. If you ever have any issue they are always willing to help. They also have support groups the first Wednesday of the month from 5:30 pm to 7:00. I usually go to these every month and there are always people there that are a great support system too. I have had some health issues this past year and everyone in the office is so careing and want what is best for you. There was one point where I put on a few pounds and they willing to meet with you are set you up with the right people to help you out so that you can be successful. I wish you the best of luck with your gallbladder sugery and hopefully I will see you at some support group meetings too.

Welcome to the board Sheree!!!  Great to have you aboard!!!  I am sure you will find plenty of support here, just make take a while for some responses as we have lots of lurkers, myself included.  Glad to hear that you found a doctor that is willing to work with you.  That is alway a bonus on our mental state as we go through this process.

Where in the thumb are you at?  My hubby grew up in Bad Axe, although we now live down in Pinckney which is between Howell and Ann Arbor.  I drove to Flint for my surgery and for the first year of follow-up, but now I just see my PCP and they do all my labs for me.  Sometimes you can't find a PCP that is willing to do that though, I guess I got lucky.

Well, welcome again and good luck with your gallbladder surgery, I had that done myself a couple years before my GP surgery....  Keep us posted on how you are doing...

Hey, I know Dr.Kia! I'd been fighting for the DS for a long, long time but didnt have proper insurance for it and I almost had a gastric bypass with Dr. Kia. He was a really nice man and I felt good being there.  I decided to wait it out hoping I'd find the insurance I needed and luckily for ME it worked out BUT Dr. Kia and that whole practice seems like a genuinely good place and I wish you the very best ! :) You can fix this and take control again just believe it, ok?  :)  Have you ever done the 5 day pouch test? google it!  :) NEVER EVER give up on yourself!! :)
